Finally some fast, fresh, cheap, proper Mexican food in Amsterdam. With two locations (one in busy Rembrandtplein and a second on the Ferdinand Bolstraat near The Pipe), the decor is sterile but chic with cacti and succulent plants doing a great but minimalist job of decorating because, hey, it’s mostly about the food at Salsa Shop. It is just like Chipotle (or Mad Mex of Guzmen in Australia). You choose an outter, then meat filling, accessories (roast corn, grilled veggies, fresh pico de gallo, cheese etc), then choose a house made salsa and enjoy. Four childhood friends started this place after falling in love with Californian/Mexican cuisine - they even employed a Mexican head chef born and raised in Mexico to put together their menu using her family’s secret recipes. You can sit in, take away or order online and get delivered. Dreamboat!
The Dutch Chipotle, like almost exactly like Chipotle. They've just opened so they have some kinks to work out but I think it will be a nice addition to the restaurant choices at Rembrandtplein.
The thing that makes the Salsa Shop different is well, their salsa. Chilly peach habinero, smokey pineapple chipotle and zingy salsa verde are a few. The lemonades are nothing exciting and they provide free flavored water anyway so don't bother.
Can't wait to get my burrito bowl fix again!
