Part of this market felt a little touristy but not pushy. As you walk to the back, it starts to feel like a locals market where the locals go to get anything they could possibly need. I loved this.

There are actually two large markets next to each other. This market, de Artesanias, has more than 100 stalls where mostly indigenous Mayas sell beautiful handcrafted goods. The other market, simply known as El Mercado, is an enormous indoor/outdoor not to be missed. You can pick up just about anything you need at this market. It seems like a maze at first, but just keep wandering and you'll find you're way out. Be extra cautious with purses and wallets as it can get very crowded. Although it's open every day, big market days are Wednesdays and Saturdays when people come from all over to sell their wares. The produce is incredible! The flowers gorgeous! And the prices unbelievable.

Nice open air market with nearby artisan market. It is a pretty good place to find fresh fruits and vegetables as well as a variety of Guatemalan artisan goods from all over the country

Touristy but fun, this market area sells crafts, food, clothes and sundry other goods, and makes a great place for an hour or two of wandering.

The left side is the high end stuff and the right side is the sketchy "black market" section. Naturally, I went right. My sweet scores included a gallon of illegal red corn Guatemalan moonshine for $6 USD.

This is the place to buy all your groceries. Quite a cultural experience.
