The Crested Butte to Aspen Hike through the Maroon Bells Wilderness is a fantastic way to spend a day. Plan on one day each way and you should enjoy each town for a day or two while you are at it ;).

This is an easy and must do trip when in Aspen. There is a nice road going all the way up, but this is closed between 8am and 5pm.
Anyway the best way is to come for sunrise to see the mirror in the lake.
Between 8 and 5 there are shuttle buses you take.
From there you can do a couple of hikes. We did the Crater lake hike which is 3.2 miles.

Spectacular! This is one of the most photographed mountains in the world, and for good reason. I did a 16 mile bike from town to come here - definitely the best way to do it if you are in reasonable shape. The ride is mostly uphill on the way there, but through beautiful countryside. The way back is mostly a cruise. The bells are truly breathtaking! To really appreciate it, plan to spend a couple hours and hike around the lake (would be a great spot for a picnic!). Tip: get here at sunrise for the best photos and to avoid the crowds. Otherwise, shuttle busses run from town from 8 am to 8 pm

Stunningly beautiful. There's a reason why the bells are the most photographed mountain in North America.

I bet you have seen Maroon Bells and don't even realize it. This scenic spot featuring jutting peaks reflected in a still lake is one of the most popular photo ops in the entire State. And for good reason - the sight of Maroon Bells will take your breath away with its beauty. Hike in and bring lunch so that you can lounge in this glorious place or stay until sunset to capture the color streaked sky as it melts into the night.

The Bells are a must see on your trip. Winter or summer. There is easy day access year round (winter by snowmobile or XC ski only). In the summer it is a great gateway to the famous four pass loop and the hike to Crested Butte.

The most highly photographed peaks in the Rocky Mountains, the Maroon Bells Wilderness area's beauty speaks for itself. Spectacular hiking and horse trails abound along with climbing, camping, fly fishing and just about any other outdoor wilderness activity you can imagine. This is truly a must see in the summer time.

Maroon Bells is a breathtakingly beautiful part of the United States--a glacial valley with a view of purple mountian peaks and the shimmering Maroon Lake below. The only problem is that, especially in the summer, the trails surrounding the lake can get overrun with people--arrive early to beat the crowds!

Maroon Bells Near Aspen - A BEAUTIFUL place to hike and take pictures! -- Take I-70 west to Glenwood Springs to Highway 82 east. Follow 82 to the Aspen Roundabout where you will pick up the Maroon Creek Road exit. A parking lot off the roundabout offers shuttle service to Maroon Bells Road. Nestled in the Gunnison and White River National Forests, this area varies from 7,500 to over 14,000 feet! The Maroon Bells is one of Colorado's most photographed landmarks. The mirror-like reflective Maroon Lake will afford incredible views of the surrounding terrain and vegetation, which happens to be full of our lovely Colorado Aspen. (See Map)

This is truly a *must see* for Aspen in the Summer. Catch the bus at Ruby Park just at the bottom of hill and take a scenic ride up Maroon Creek to the Maroon Bells.

Every great mountain should have a reflecting pool. The hiking is easy, nature abundant and the "Aspens" are spectacular year round. I only spent a few hours here, but you could spend years exploring this wonderful country.

Maroon Bells is absolutely stunning. It is impossible to take a bad photo here. No matter which direction you turn, you are surrounded by beauty. And, for better or worse, Maroon Bells is easily accessible to almost everyone. Park at Aspen Highlands Village, and board a bus that climbs up the mountain and drops you off near Maroon Lake (and later brings you back down). There are trails for every ability, whether you want a quick walk around the lake, a longer trek to Crater Lake, or you're feeling really adventurous and want to camp so you can climb to higher elevations. A must do if you're in the Aspen area.
