Athens Vacations

Yes, we know the Greek islands are astoundingly beautiful, but to witness the icon of Western civilization, come to Athens. Highlights include walking in Plato or Aristotle's footsteps on the Acropolis, viewing the city from the Parthenon or visiting the Agora, an ancient Greek marketplace and modern-day attraction. culture and history are plentiful in the city, as well, and the historical neighborhood of Plaka is the place to snag a hotel. In 2004, Athens hosted the Summer Olympic Games, and the remnants are on display at the Olympic Sports Complex. Athens is a great place to experiment with Greek cuisine, if you don't mind eating dinner after 8pm. Athens has a robust and vibrant nightlife due to late habits, with families enjoying restaurants late into the night, and younger people frequenting clubs every night of the week.

during the week of Easter when many shops and restaurants close down. Heading here in the winter also isn’t bad since the weather remains relatively mild. Summers are sweltering hot with temperatures that commonly reach 100 (37), along with hoards of tourists and higher hotel prices. If you do venture to Athens in the summer, especially during the hottest months of July and August, check to see that your hotel has air conditioning since not all hotels are blessed with this modern amenity.

Many travelers use Athens as a place to check off some ruins and head to the islands. Personally, I loved spending a more significant amount of time exploring the city. I recommend it for female travelers, too, and backpackers can find hostels here.

Greece takes forever to explore, yet only a moment to fall in love with. From the capital Athens to the most remote of islands or mountain villages, this country is full of charm, charisma and surprises. Been going there for years and every time it feels more and more like coming home.

Some people love it, some people hate on it. The biggest thing to know - don't get a hotel near the port. Syntagma square? That's a central spot and you can stroll to nearby streets lined with fun bars, cafes, and restaurants. Kolonaki? Even better - one of the posh or upscale neighborhoods and you will be at ease. So if you plan out a nice hotel or Airbnb then I think you will love the city. The people are laid back, there's a great coffee culture, make sure you sit back and enjoy! Don't try and see everything all in one day. If you will hike to the top of the Acropolis - go earlier in the morning and avoid the hottest part of the day. All in all, it's a special city with graffiti all over but it's got some character and plenty of leafy streets and fun cafes and bars.

Athens is full of ancient history, architecture, and great food. The city is rather big so plan for a lot of time between all of the historic sites.

Although the center and most of the interesting places to see are close to the Acropolis, it still is one the must see cities in Europe.

More than 3000 years of Western history, from then till now all in one, super vibrant city. Sort of like a big civizilation soup.
Great night life, more things to do and see than you possibly shake a stick at. Easy access to beautiful Islands, beaches and countryside.
Probably the most reasonably priced place to visit in Europe.
Go there love it!
