A girl has to do some shopping, and the flea market of Monastiraki is perfect for that. Mind you, you'll find a lot of souvenirs and some of them won't necessarily be the nice ones but the area is so nice, safe and packed with coffee shops and restaurants that it is pleasant for a walk anyways.

The best place for low badget, andenvture types, backpackers, solo travellers, artists and families. It sells all about souvenirs, local stuffs, even famous clothes and shoes authentic brands in really low prices.

Flea market is an understatement. More of a bazaar everything from the most nightmare inducing kitsch to adorable albeit touristy souvenirs to the rare find and everyday necessities, you can find whatever comes to mind (as well as what doesn't). Such fabulous people watching and a fun stroll!

I stayed close to this area in Athens, near Monastiraki metro station. It is pleasant to walk around and lots of shops, very lively area.

Really cool place with dozens upon dozens of stalls and shops. It would be easy to spend hours wandering around and getting lost. Take a stroll down the adjacent street for some even more interesting antique shops.

Excellent flea market neighborhood in the old town of Athens! The evening is the most lively time to visit, shop, and people watch.

I have been frequenting this market since I was a kid so I really love it!
It has any type of shoe or army/navy stuff you could ever want. The location is in central Athens near the Acropolis so highly trafficked with tourists. Tons of touristy shops and everyone speaks English. It is open till about 9pm in the summer after that time I would avoid cutting through there to get back to your hotel as the seedier elements of the city will be roaming.

A paved street with a variety of shops, some of theem with quite alternative products. Usually, It's packed with people but it could be considered as a nice experience if you want to feel like a real tourist in Greece or if you just want to buy something.

Even though it has been transformed to a commercial market you can still find treasures if you search for them... And it remains a enjoyable walk!

You can definitely lose a good 3-4 hours here if you are a shopper. Just be wary of the folks that are walking through and selling items. They can be a little irritating and follow you around. We didn't buy much as we didn't have any more room in our suitcases but you can find some awesome buys here, especially if you like to haggle.

Fun to wander around and check out all the interesting items, fun way to spend a couple of hours. Located next to the Monastiraki train station.

It was nice to walk through on Sunday when the locals had their personal things to sell. Any other day it's very touristy.

This is a great place where to spend a few hours, as it is a day market and quite large. It is a flea market but also a place where you can find great leather goods and leather sandals hand made. The prices vary and you can actually find very good deals. Prices can be negotiated and you can find any different item, from collection articles to antiques to brand new fashion objects. There are also a few places where you can grab a fast lunch and a great Greek coffee to drink very slowly as the locals do.
