Comfortable rooms but the elevators are very old - feels like they put a good facade on a much older building. Staff and service are great

This hotel has one of the most exception views in Austin, with a beautiful view of the Texas capitol. Located on Congress Avenue, the Intercontinental Stephen F Austin Hotel is truly in the heart of downtown Austin. This is a beautiful art deco building, and it’s located right next to the famous Paramount theatre. This portion of Congress Avenue is historic, scenic and one of the most unique and interesting blocks in all of downtown Austin. The hotel went through a renovation in 2013, so though it’s an older building the rooms and amenities are modern. Since the hotel is on Congress, it’s also right in the heart of all that is exciting in Austin, such as the 6th entertainment district. It’s also a pedicab ride away from South Congress and the Rainey street bar district.

I'm in love with the location -- a rock toss from the Capitol, downtown nightclubs and on historic Congress Ave. But it can be rather expensive. It has a nice hotel bar with a short menu, and it's connected to the independent Roaring Fork, which draws rave reviews. The tiny lap pool isn't much for leisure swimmers, but it has a nice hot tub and large fitness center. There's a wide variety of room types, so ask for the options. A great place. Valet parking runs about $30 for 24-hr in/out service. Or you can use a garage about half a block away for about $7-$15 each entry, depending on demand.

This is a very old and historic building recently renovated to allow more modern features while maintaining it’s old English Victorian feel. Here you have your car valet parked, step off one of the busiest streets in Austin and into a massive stone and marble lobby with an elegant grand staircase. You feel very fancy here. The Roaring Fork is their on-site restaurant and they offer an excellent in-house bar. There are plenty of lounge areas, including a second-story patio that allows you to relax over the hustle and bustle of the city. There are tons of restaurants, bars, attractions, and historic sites at your finger tips here. There is a nice gym in the basement next to a hot tub and small 1-lane lap pool.

The InterContinental hotel is relatively iconic to downtown Austin with quite an interesting architecture. The hotel ihas a very old world sophistication about it that is quite alluring. As soon as you walk in you will see a grannd staircase at the back of the lobby. The decor feels very English to me because it is quite traditional. I booked a suite here for my birthday but was quite underwhelmed by it. I felt like the space was not used to its full advantage and that there was a lot of wasted space. The living room furnishes were not that comfortable, but the bed was incredibly comfortable. The hotel also houses a couple of bars and restaurants that are really enjoyable. The second floor bar has a wonderful balcony that is fantastic to utilize when the weather is nice. It it definitely a little bit pricey though. Located on 7th and Congress- this hotel is in the perfect location to enjoy some great austin restaurants and nightlife. If you are drawn to traditional design, then you will love this option.

One of Austin's historic hotels, sweeping staircase in the lobby winds down to a truly Texas sculpture of a cowboy wrangling longhorns. No river views to speak of from this hotel, but rooms are comfortable and the old, porcelin bathtub was great. Gym and lap pool are interestingly in the basement. Front desk said they are beginning renovations soon (hope they keep the old tubs!). The second floor bar has a great terrace for drinks outside.

New York State

Pros - Comfortable beds, Clean gym, Location, Good toiletries.
Cons - You have to pay up to $20/day for Internet. The walls are paper thin and I could clearly hear my neighbor's alarms and phone conversations. Rooms are very small compared to less expensive hotels nearby. During check-in, staff told me priority club members had the benefit of breakfast and late check out. I didnt need the late check out, but after my first breakfast meal (bowl of fruit and coffee), I was handed a $15 bill.
