I keep the room cold because I didn't know what I was getting myself into with Austin in July and the 97* degree weather and humidity. Location is ideal to food and drinks. I don't have to walk more than half a mile to something tasty. Swimming pool is located on the rooftop with a decent view but it's definitely too small to do anything but sit and wade. Staff is very friendly. There are offices located on the other side of the building. Kinda awkward when your in shorts and flip flops and you share an elevator with someone in a suit.

Omni Austin Downtown might just be the best hotel to stay in Austin. Downtown Austin can get quite hectic and loud, especially on the weekends when tourists and locals flock to the 6th street entertainment district, as well as all the other entertainment opportunities tucked downtown. The Omni is close enough downtown to enjoy all the perks, but also provides the opportunity to pull out of the chaos in a quiet hotel that has ample, gorgeous views. I recommend getting a room facing South Austin. The rooms are quaint and clean. There are a lot of options depending on your need, but I definitely recommend a room with a view and one of their executive rooms, which offers upscale amenities.

Good downtown location just two blocks to the main strip with restaurants and clubs then a few more to the conference center. Great choice if you are here on business.

This hotel is huge and they often discount their rooms on priceline and other sites so check around before booking.

Wow big surprise! Clean, friendly, comfortable. We used priceline.com and the rate was $67.00 per night. I would say that the morning breakfast buffet is 1st class. Dinner and lunch is available but not as great as the breakfast buffet. It's within reach of UT @Austin for the college visit.

I came here for a weekend visit during 4th of July weekend. This place is like what everyone else said.. GORGEOUS. The atrium and lobby area are ridiculously nice with its high ceiling and decor.

Our room was one of the luxury suites with a very big comfy bed. The room overlooked the city which was pretty nice.

And service! All the workers were so accommodating and helpful. I wanted to go to a nice restaurant to eat for a special occasion, and they directed us to list of restaurants and recommended a few. (We ended up at Driskill grill: http://www.yelp.com/biz/… ). They also told us where to go and how to get there since we were both not from the area. I'd definitely stay at this hotel again or any other Omni hotel.

BTW, I dropped by the roof top hotel but it was WAYYYYY too hot to stay. Austin, or Texas weather period is super, super hot during summer. No wind, just hot heat. If you don't know.. now you know!

This is a very nice hotel in the heart of downtown Austin. I have stayed here once and also attended a couple events in the ballrooms. The rooms were quite comfortable and prices were reasonable.

I used to work for Omni Hotels and I'd recommend staying at the Omni Austin Hotel Downtown for sure. The Omni Downtown is located a block from famous 6th street which you have to visit if you haven't been to Austin before. The area of 6th that is walking distance is now referred to as 'dirty sixth' now. The whole scene has grown both east and west. You can check out East 6th if you'd like where you'll find more food trucks and outdoor areas to sit & socialize or you can head over to West 6th where you'll find more upscale places and fine restaurants. There is a nice night life over around Red River and Caesar Chavez too - I'd recommend Lustre Pearl on Rainey St.

You should visit the world headquarters of Whole Foods while you're around 6th as it is located at 6th & Lamar. They offer cooking classes there if you're in the mood for something fun. There is also an Anthropologie and a local place to pick up some music called Waterloo Records & Ice House at that intersection.

For a nice view and/or a small hike you can check out Mt. Bonnell.

Baxter's Alamo Drafthouse recommendation is a definite must. There is one on 6th Street with a large 'Ritz' sign out front or you can head to South Austin's Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar.

Regarding Coffee Shops: Halcyon is a nice place downtown... I'd recommend Spider House over it though. If you're heading to South Austin Kaella would love Bouldin Creek Coffee Shop - not just for coffee... they have a great food selection too!

If you want the best of the best in Austin hospitality you could also look into the Four Seasons over on San Jacinto... If you don't stay there you can always drop in for an Arnold Palmer at the lobby bar to check out the scenery. If the bartender is a brunette and her name is Leslie tell her Rob Stolle said hello!

Mammoth is the first word that comes to mind to describe the Omni Austin Hotel. The all glass building is imposing but the view from the rooms that overlook the hotel lobby is pretty cool. Definitely more of a business stay option than a romantic or vacation retreat, the Omni has lots of facilities for conference rooms, meetings, etc. If planning a business stay, the downtown location is great for exploring Austin nightlife on an evening off.

Poor customer service skills can make or break any business that relies on service and repeat business, and when the concierge (who in theory should be the most stellar person on the property) is a jerk. I'm sorry you're too good to answer my mundane questions, but I'm not going to tip seriously subpar service.

Even the bathrobes, the 100 calorie superfruit mojito, and the location couldn't make up for how consistently poorly I was treated. A cocktail waitress with dark hair was stellar, and everyone else was not.

Also, can we move the fitness center a little closer? That's a long way to walk in sweaty gym clothes.

The Omni Hotel in downtown has a fantastic location. It is just blocks from the action on 6th Street, and is walkable to the Capitol, UT, Town Lake, and other downtown attractions. The building is a bit older, and has an office complex in it, but is generally well maintained. I love the rooftop pool area, and the breakfast buffet is also worth mentioning.
