I love to visit Lady Bird Lake and take my dog paddle boarding. No motorized craft allowed. Only kayaks, paddle boarders and canoes. The wildlife is incredible. If it get too hot, just dive in to the cool clear water. If you prefer to go for a hike, you will get amazing views of downtown. If you choose to go while staying, please let me know. I have some great tips on what to bring, best place to rent a board or kayak and where to park.

A wonderful body of water in the center of the city. Paddle boarding and kayak/canoeing are the most often activities around Lady Bird Lake and I do suggest trying them at least once. However, if you don't feel like being in the water, didn't pack a suit, or the weather isn't right then I highly suggest biking around Lady Bird Lake. It is probably one of my favorite past times in Austin. There are several city bikes nearby that you can rent for a really reasonable price. There are solid trails and on either side of the lake there are additional areas you can ride through for a longer more scenic ride of Austin. You can ride through downtown as well, even all the way to the capitol. On the other side of the lake there is an outdoor area around a theater that is additionally enjoyable to ride around. You can easily ride to areas to eat or snack. I suggest grabbing some local ice cream for a cool and refreshing break.

This has got to me one of my all time favorite things to do in Austin. Its a great way to enjoy the beautiful 300 days of sunshine we get in Austin.Lady Bird Lake is a mecca for outdoor activities. Hiking or biking trails, rent stand-up paddle boards and kayaks, or take a river cruise all in the heart of downtown Austin. Don't be intimidated to try paddle boarding. Everyone I know has been able to do it on their first try. The lake goes straight through downtown. Expect spectacular views of the buildings. So much wildlife. You will see cranes, huge swans, turtles and of course, the best views to see the millions of bats fly out from Congress bridge at sunset.

Best trail in Austin!...It runs along the River and is groomed for walking, jogging, running, and biking. You can take the trail to get anywhere in the city and/or to parks, Zilker, Barton Springs etc. A must go!

The winding trails, shady green trees, and picture ready views make this a great experience. There are a lot of unleashed dogs even though they are supposed to be leashed. I don't mind that at all but if you are not comfortable around dogs be mindful of that.

The entire loop is 12 miles and gives you a great snap shot of the city. The Austin Rowing Clubhouse is off the trail and has a cute cafe you can stop to fuel up. The boardwalk is part of it, and is just pretty. You can rent city bikes all around the town, or bikes from local shops.

Beautiful, re-done trail along the lake that bisects the city. Check out the lights at night.
