Description
The slogan states that 'everything is bigger in Texas,' and if you look at our Capitol, the phrase rings true. Standing a stately 309 feet and modeled after the nation's Capitol in Washington D.C., ... Read more
this is the nation's tallest. Designed by architect Elijah E. Myers and constructed of red granite, the Capitol took more than seven years to complete. It was finished in 1888, at a total cost of more than three million dollars, an extravagant price even by today's standards. The perfectly landscaped grounds reflect the languid pace of life under the Texas sun, inviting you for a quiet stroll or a lazy day under a tree.

What a great meeting with organization Texas values! They empowered us to go speak to the folks at the Capital about relevant issues they will be voting for this session. The Capital is so beautiful. Every detail reflects that Texas sized pride in the Lone Star State!

A symbol of Texas, with lots of historical paintings and portraits of the founding fathers of Texas like Sam Houston, Steve Austin & more. With one wing for House of Senate and one for House of Representatives, it’s the second largest Capitol building next to Capitol building in DC.

Beautiful area to walk through with some interesting statutes to see and read about. Can be a quick visit, or drawn out with the free tour to be a longer activity.

We were in Austin, so we thought, why not take the free tour. It was interesting and a nice primer for how the Texas State Government runs. As always in Texas, they're very into state history. Good tour if you're a history buff or into politics.

There is so much to do in Austin. At the Capitol you can get a Texas History lesson, explore the historical and beautiful building, and even try a sandwich at the cafeteria.

This is a nice capitol building. It has a regal feel to it. It's free to visit, and there's also tours of the building. We didn't take a tour when we visited, but that would have been nice!

Beautiful red marbled building, feels more like an art museum in some ways. Free to tour and fun to walk around the huge building, full of annexes, sweeping staircases, columned halls and historical displays. Majestic old oak trees and lots of memorials line the grounds in the downtown Austin location. Well worth a visit.

Wow! Texas State Capitol is a beauty!

The architecture is lovely and inside is even nicer. I'm glad we got a chance to visit this place even when it's a rainy day. Less line for us, yay!

You can visit the state Capitol during business hour and can roam around the place. It's cool and fun. So bring the little one and have a educated family day!
