The tour was surprisingly interactive! I went first thing in the morning and didn’t have any trouble with long lines.

Located in Avignon, this amazing structure was built during the Roman Catholic Church schism, mainly by Italian workers. It sits above the famous Pont d"Avignon.

A lovely structure in the heart of Avignon. The palace offers great tours that provide excellent information on the buildings history.

This historical palace is a large medieval Gothic building and once the papal residence of Western Christianity in the 14th century. Today it is a tourist attraction and a convention centre. Visitors can see more than twenty rooms including the Papal apartments with their frescoes.

The tour involves lots of steps making it not accessible to people with reduced mobility.

It doesn't get much grander then this 12th Century Pope's Palace with a stunning view of the River Rhone from its ancient gardens. On the other side is Utopia a great bijoux cinema always showing good movies many in English. A hub for the arty/intellectual set of the area. A great Avignon secret with two wonderful restaurants and outdoor/indoor seating.

AVIGNON Palais des Papes.
Sur le pont d’Avignon, L’on y danse. Sur le pont d’Avignon, L’on y danse tout en rond. On the bridge of Avignon, we all dance there. On the bridge of Avignon, We all dance there in a ring. This old French folk song, I think you know it, was meant to play for folk dances. The Avignon bridge, over the Rhone river, is still to be seen, or better what is left of it. Avignon, her nickname is; The Rhone Babylon, is a beautiful place, especially the square Place d’Horloge and the Papal Palace.
Between 1309 and 1377 during the Avignon Papacy, seven successive popes resided in Avignon and in 1348 Pope Clement VI bought the town from Joanna I of Naples. Papal control persisted until 1791.

Home to the Papacy for almost 80 years in the 1300s when the Popes decided they needed to escape the chaos of Rome. It played an important role in the papal schism at the beginning of the 15th century. In addition to its important historical role, it is also a spectacular palace built in the Gothic style.

Palais des Papes is a great to visit. You should also do the tour of the inner walls of Avignon and learn about the history of this area.

This palace, built at a time in history when the Popes actually lived here, is a enormous piece of gothic architecture. Inside it is the history of Catholic Church. From the top, you can see a full view of Avignon and the beautiful landscape.

You will definitely like it if you are a museum-lover type of guy :) Well, I am not and enjoyed much better to stroll on the tiny cobbled streets around the Pope's Palace.

It was just OK. I would suggest doing a wine tasting at the Bouteillerie in the Palais des Papes prior to your tour of the Palais, it will round out your day much better.
