Bainbridge was voted one of the top 10 dreamy islands to live/retire on in the US by GangsAway website, and with good reason. This Island really holds its own in terms of lifestyle, good eating, shopping and entertainment. Even the schools are good, so the inhabitants rarely have to leave.
For the outdoors experience, tour the Bloedel Reserve, with its 150 acres of wildlife sanctuary, a Japanese Garden, and a range of native plants and Northwest evergreens. Or if you are looking for a pure nature hike, head to Gazzam Lake Preserve with its 444-acre forest, lake and wetland refuge.

Our island is ideally located only 30 minute ferry from Seattle and with only 23,000 people; lots of forests, parks, marinas and beaches; over 40 fantastic forest trails; lots of great restaurants, pubs and coffee houses; both the big retailers here and in nearby Poulsbo as well as the artsy boutiques; lots of museums, theater and events all year round. A small town paradise with EVERYTHING you need for a great visit.

Loved the atmosphere, just 35 mins from Seattle by ferry. Small but very interesting history museum, great bakeries and cafes, super Argentine ice cream at Mora, scenic marina, stimulating bookstores - a visit well worthwhile. Surprised I had never been before, living in Seattle for 4 years.
