Haven't visited a museum in Baltimore in ages but gave this a try as it has become free for all ages as of couple years ago. Wow! It's really nice and has so many rooms and four floors of exhibits. I particularly liked the Egyptian area, the Islamic, and the medieval ones.

A definite gem to visit that covers so many different eras of art.

The Walters is the largest museum in Baltimore, and as of a few years ago, it's free! Located between downtown and Mt Vernon, the Walters takes up one city block, and is filled with basically every kind of art you would expect from a heavy hitter. Another cool thing that is a little bit different, though, is that they also host a whole slew of interesting evening and happy hour events with live music, DJ's, dancing and networking. Check out their schedule to see what they have coming up. It's well worth a visit, and your visit could easily span a full day or more.

The Walters is one of those rare art galleries that manages to have a sense of humor and pique the curiosity of visitors. With collections spanning centuries, immaculate open galleries and intricate mosaics throughout, there's never a shortage of things to look at. And the best thing about the museum? It's free!

The Walter's is one of the more traditional museums in Baltimore. It's on Charles street, and the surrounding area is really nice- lots of great restaurants to try after you've finished browsing. The inside of the museum is stunning- it kind of feels like you're in an old English manor. The displays are also more 'open' than traditional museums- you can sit and really look at the pieces in detail. Their Egypt section is also really cool, but the Renaissance & Baroque rooms cannot be missed.

This museum is designed to be fun and in a way subversive.... and it's free! You can spend a whole afternoon on a single floor. I wouldn't rush to see everything in one go, if you've time for multiple visits.

A free museum that is so good you'll probably want to give them a donation anyway. The Walters is in a huge building right across the street from the Washington Monument in historic Mount Vernon. You can tell by their regularly updated website that this isn't some fuddy duddy neglected free museum; there is always something happening! On Thursday nights from 5-9 they have beer and wine for 5 bucks. There's also a free concert series which often features classical music.
