Cool place to spend the day looking at the little shops and art galleries. I recommend checking it out if you like artsy things and if you just enjoy poking around random shops.

A large artists gathering area. Gallery, showroom, theater, cafe & restaurants. It's a good place for photo shooting.

I visited the art district of Beijing on my final day in this city, and I wish I'd gone sooner and spent more time there. It is so different to the rest of Beijing and has a fantastic, creative atmosphere. When walking around you'll come across many weird and wonderful sculptures, as well as delicious smells emanating from the cafes and eateries. There are loads of gallery spaces here to stroll around, and a lot of contemporary and avant garde artwork to interact with.

798 Art Zone is the center of Beijing's modern and thriving art scene. The venue is a series of decommissioned military warehouse that house installations and exhibitions year round. You'll get a taste of the new Beijing; it's young and creative population who present an alternative the traditional art and architecture found all over the city.

This former site of factories and warehouses has been revitalized into a hub of Chinese culture and art. The 798 Art Zone has a noticeably upbeat vibe and is lined with trendy cafes and boutiques. Funky, colorful art kids of any age will love is sprinkled in between–we’re told the pieces on display are ever-changing. There is a 3D image museum that was incredible for all ages. People appeared to be interacting with whatever the art. You can spend half a day here and your children would love running around and seeing the funky art displays. Great photo ops too!

Not entirely off the beaten path but this is a great place to experience Beijing's art scene. 798 is a series of warehouses / modern art galleries in a suburb of Beijing.

Be sure to check opening / closing times before you go.

one of my favorite places in Beijing. I love the physicality of the space, turning a corner to discover some kind of sculpture, interesting gallery, abandoned alley, or tiny noodle house.

Escape the hustle and bustle of Beijing, and enjoy the quirky artworks showcased by local artists! I personally enjoy art and museums, so this artwalk was truly a gem. There was no admission costs, and there were a good variety of sculptures and paintings locals can see.

Seriously cool place. Very different view of Chinese art. There is a budding modern art scene budding in this city and it's all coming from 798. Many galleries, café's galore, and handmade/designer clothing.

Once a factory complex, the 798 art district needs to be seen by the curious eye and by the art lover himself. It used to be a bit less commercial back in 2005 but now it attracts more international attention than ever. Without being turned into a posh art district.

This is by far my favorite part of Beijing. It's on the outskirts of the Chaoyang District an features cool modern art that is pretty cutting edge. You feel like you're in another world as you explore art housed in decommissioned military factory buildings, which still hold their original architecture.

A very funky and cool area to explore various interesting art galleries and cafes. Note that most galleries are closed Monday.

This is the place to be to discover what's happening on Beijing's art scene. There are plenty of interesting shops and little restaurants. Has a tendency to get a bit touristy, but the area is charming and large enough that it is not too noticeable. You can check up specific art exhibitions online, but it's even more fun just to explore the space and see what you find!

Wow! is all I can say about this enormous Art District in Beijing. Streets, and city blocks filled with art galleries, museums, coffee shops and curio stores. If you're visiting in the winter, make sure you start your day early as nightfall sets around 5 or 6 pm here and it's difficult to find a cab during this time in that side of the city.

This is a cool art district in Beijing that took over a decommissioned military factory. There are a ton of pretty cool outdoor art exhibits and plenty of nice restaurants to eat at. There are also a ton of small shops that sell original clothes and pieces of art. Worth a look on a nice day!

A really interesting area of Beijing that shows off the modern art community. A sprawling area of free art exhibits, galleries, massive statues, and cafes. It is a great way to spend an afternoon. Most of the impressive stuff is found by just aimlessly wandering down the side streets.

Some of the art can be a bit repetitive and the food over-priced, Avoid 798 during the weekend when bus tours descend on the quiet street.
