city. In 1360, a Kontor of the Hanseatic League was established in Bryggen, and the buildings were taken over by Hanseatic merchants. The buildings in Bryggen were primarily made of wood, which led to fires being prevalent over the course of its history. Many of the structures found in Bryggen were built after 1702. Today, Bryggen's buildings house tourist, souvenir and gift shops, as well as restaurants, pubs and museums.

A lovely place to experience how Bergen was when Hansiaterne lived and worked in town. It’s still in daily use mostly by tourist but also by the people living in the town. Good restaurants, bars and museums

The city of Bergen is a small gem on the west coast of Norway. It encompasses a fjord and mountains. One of the main attractions is a area of old wooden buildings from the Hanseatic League. The area was an important trading center at the time these structures were first built. Very picturesque with expensive shops.

This is one of the most photogenic sections of Bergen. Bryggen is the old wharf, with brightly colored houses, all slightly crooked, facing the harbor. Fun place to wander

Bryggen is a series of Hanseatic commercial buildings lining the eastern side of the fjord coming into Bergen, Norway. Bryggen has since 1979 been on the UNESCO list for World Cultural Heritage sites.
Bryggen has been the nerve centre of the city for hundreds of years and the silhouette of its ancient gables is perhaps the most familiar image in all of Norway.

Although historic and beautiful, the historic district of Bryggen has become filled with tourist trap shops. It's still worth a stroll to walk among the strikingly colorful buildings.
