Description
Modelled after the acropolis in Athens, Greece, this portal has seen some of the most interesting history in the world unfold at its gates. From marches through Pariser Platz, Napolean's armies ... Read more
stealing statues, and the burning of the Reichstag down the street, this monument is a testament to history. After it sustained heavy damage during WW2, the gate became inaccessible to most of the world, as the Berlin wall was constructed and the gate fell into the zone of death surrounding it-- it's only fitting that this was the site people gathered at in the hundreds of thousands to celebrate the end of cold war. Gather here for tourist information-- there's an office in the south wing of the gate. Notice, in the middle of the street, you can see the line where the Berlin Wall once stood; imagine what Brandenburg Gate would say, given the chance.

A must see in Berlin! But there is a lot of tourists there. I recommend coming early there, so the place isn’t so crowded.

Important gate in the history of Germany and Europe, it is interesting to look at photos from the past and compare the modern surroundings.

I don't think you can rate a free historical attraction any less than 5 stars. It's one of those landmarks that I've always wanted to see and when I finally arrived in Berlin, it gave me chills!

Yes, it's touristy, but the later in the evening (or the earlier in the morning) that you visit, the better chance you'll have of snapping private photos. I'd recommend going at dusk because the Gate is lit up and is absolutely gorgeous.

It's free and open 24 hours. Doesn't get much better than that.

I really did love it.
I was living in Berlin for a couple of moths and then we have decided that we should go explore Berlin all day, cause we have been so busy with out jobs.
We had a wonderful time walking around the Berlin, later we even rent a bike so it was a little bit easier.
We cam here kinda late at about 9:30 pm but I think because of it...it was even more beautiful. It was kinda more dramatic and it seems even more powerful. It was cold, but we enjoyed it very much.

I came to see the Reichstag at 9pm a much quieter time and the Brandenburg gate was right nearby - it looks amazing at night with dramatic lighting.

An 18th century monument and a popular landmark of Berlin of huge historic significance topped with a five-meter high sculpture that embodies the goddess of victory directing a four-horse drawn carriage into the city.

The view of the Gate at night is beautiful.

Beautiful architecture, which I was fortunate enough to see during the Festival of Lights.. simply amazing. One of the highlights of my trip, and it's free :)

It's one of the most important things to visit whilst in Berlin. I would personally recommend to go there at night time, because of the lights. There is opportunity for food and drinks close by and it's great for people on a budget, as it is completely free to look at ;)

The Brandenburg Gate is one of the best known landmarks in Berlin. It is built on the site of a former city gate that marked the start of the road from Berlin to the town of Brandenburg.

Another Berlin must. US embassy on one side and Starbucks on the other. So much happened here.

Commissioned by King Frederick William II of Prussia, this is perhaps Berlin's if not Germany's best known landmark. The Brandenburg Gate formed the background for Ronald Reagan's "tear down that wall" speech.

Nice monument, good to be visited at night during the golden hour when the lit up gate looks beautiful against the clouds.

The most famous spots in Berlin. We arrived there in a cloudy afternoon it seems a little old without blue sky

The famous gate is an icon and must-see though, like most of Berlin's monuments, the history itself outshines the structures that memorialize it.

The gate is a must see when in Berlin. It is definitely very photogenic, however gets busy during the day (as you would expect). Looks nice lit up at night too.
