The Berlin DDR (Deutsche Demokratische Republik) museum is the best museum place I went to while I was in Germany. It depicts life in East Germany and Eastern Europe in a very fun and interactive manner. There is trabant which is grounded and hooked to a computer game simulation. You can drive it and use the steering wheel and the pedals to navigate a neighborhood in East Germany Berlin.

I loved this museum. Gives you a great idea of how Berlin was during the DDR times. While teaching you more facts about it. Great price for the experience you get to have. Beware of the huge lines during summer and other holiday periods.

Experience ‘Ostalgie’: Nostalgia for life in former East Germany. Hands on interactive experience of what everyday life was like in Berlin under Soviet occupation. Fun for the whole family.

It was ok but felt robbed for the six euros that was asked for, had to deal with rude kids, there was a lot of information to take in but was ok still.

If you want to know absolutely everything about life in Communist Germany, then this museum is the place for you. It shows everything from furniture to clothing, with extensive descriptions of everything. It is an interactive museum, and has on display a DDR car, which can sometimes still be seen driving around the streets of Berlin, and a DDR flat, complete with kitchen and living room. It gives a great immersion experience into the lives of those who lived in East Germany, what they experienced, and especially in Berlin, what kind of life just down the road, but so out of reach.

This is well worth a visit, as it documents daily life in East Germany. It does tend towards "Ostalgie", but is still an excellent and fascinating museum. Try to go early in the day, later on in the afternoon it can get quite crowded and that can take away from some of the enjoyment.

The Domklause restaurant (bearing the same name as the restaurant from the former DDR-era Palasthotel that occupied the site) is worth a visit; sample some authentic East German dishes. There is a fantastic socialist mural on the wall, too.

Offers a nice overview of the life of eastern Berlin giving you the chance to sit on a seat of a real Trabant or in the living room of the communist Berlin. Also a very detailed information about the specific era.

The aim of this museum is showing people daily life during DDR period through East Germany commonly used stuffs. You’ll be required to open drawers, pushing buttons, switching devices and… jumping up a real Trabant! You’ll also experience the gloomy atmosphere of a Stasi third degree (“The lives of others” style).
Then, if you exit the museum and you don’t know how to spend the next 60 minutes, you’ll find in front of you a boat (departing every 10 minutes) for a relaxing guided tour along Spree river.

The DDR Museum is fascinating: full of real objects used in the DDR. It is an interactive museum, so kids can climb into cars etc, there are videos. Just an excellent place that really shows what live in the East was like. http://www.ddr-museum.de/en/museum/
