A square with shopping and good food, known for its nightlife. There is also a market every Thursday.

A transportation hub where an open air market is held every Thursday and Saturday. The market was relatively limited and a bit disappointing.

This upscale market has a nicely curated collection of local retailers selling distinctive products with good design. There are a few chains but I was impressed. A good place to pick up a souvenir that you won't regret.

Square filled with lots of cafes and bars. I prefer Hackescher Markt on market days. Ideally located to other sites like Museum Island

What used to be grim during the DDR days (when it was called Marz-Engel-Platz), Hackescher Markt has been gentrified within an inch of its life and has become a bustling square filled with cafes and restaurants. There are good places to eat here, and during the summer it's a lovely place to grab a pizza and beer whilst people watching. Don't miss die Hackeschen Höfe courtyards (http://www.gogobot.com/hackeschen-hofe-berlin-attraction), and the market on Saturday mornings can be lovely.

If you're looking to explore Berlin, this can be a good place to start. A walk to the north will take you up Rosenthaler Straße to the lovely Kastanienallee and Mauerpark and up into Prenzlauer Berg; a walk to the east will take you over to Alexanderplatz; heading south will take you to Museum Island; and a walk to the west will take you up to the restaurants and cafes of Oranienburger Straße.

A cool place to visit and a cozy part of Berlin, but to much tourists for my taste.

This market was restored and turned out to be one great place to go if you like alternative shops, caffes and art galleries. The surrounding area from the Haeckesher Hoef is great to find small nice caffes.

A great place for food and entertainment. This square has 2 sides filled with restaurants and bars. They have more tables outside the inside where you can lounge in the sun after lunch, dinner or a drink.A lot better choice and quality then around the cathedral and the museum insel. Some days of the week there is also a market, which is fun.

One of the really original places in Berlin, the square with all its different shops and places for a beer, drink or a coffee
