At the heart of Berlin was a market - the Nikolaiviertel - named after the protector saint of merchants and fisherman. The market and neighborhood were obliterated during World War II, but many of the historic buildings were reconstructed in the 1980s, and today, the neighborhood is a curious mixture of historic buildings and concrete slab blocks. But even if the history of the place doesn't interest you, it's still a great place to find traditional German food and bars.

The place where Berlin was founded and began. It still retains some of the 'old world charm', but sadly it was all manufactured by the East German government; the Nikolaiviertel was mostly destroyed during WWII. At least the DDR used old designs and plans to refurbish some of the buildings, including the impressive double-towered Nikolaikirche.

A very nice neighborhood built in 1987 based on German villages! You will forget even for a while that you are in the center of a metropolitan city. Recommended!

A mes yeux , cet endroit ne présente actuellement pas beaucoup d'interet hormis pour ces restaurants et la superbe statue de st Georges terrassant le dragon.
