This is my absolute favorite place to have afternoon tea. Why? In addition to the tasty treats that is serve, the ambiance is AMAZING. A gorgeous living room, beautifully furnished and ultimately comfortable. Surrounding the living room are large windows that overlook the garden. Hands down, the best part is the harp player! My last visit was a disappointment, however.

My boyfriend took me here by surprise, knowing how much I love this place and because he had never been. I also told him it's THE only place to have afternoon tea in LA because it's absolutely awesome. How dare they not have the harp player during afternoon tea! This is by far what distinguishes the ambiance from other places who serve afternoon tea! It makes you want to say, "pinkies out!" The sound fills the air with romance and beauty. Whomp whomp whomp. Still a beautiful place, but romance did not fill the air! The harp player also makes one feel extra fancy and like they should be in Sunday's best, gloves and hats. This made me feel like Sunday's second best would be more fitting.

The harp player only accentuates the taste of the food. Plating is important but everything that surrounds the food is incorporated into the experience. We both ordered the Traditional Tea at $60 per person, which is usually worth it when the harp player is there. Otherwise I think it's pretty pricey. But hey, this is the Peninsula in Beverly Hills, this is expected. I ordered the Caramel Pear and he ordered the Temple of Heaven. The caramel pear was smooth and creamy and went well with cream and sugar. It is one of their popular teas. The temple of heaven tea was refreshing. We started with a sparkling wine (which by the way, doesn't come with free refills, hah). The strawberries and cream came out next and were a great appetizer. The cream was light and fluffy and absolutely delectable! The best food item was definitely the traditional scone with the Devonshire cream. It was my absolute favorite and I could eat that every day if I could! My favorites of the sandwiches were the smoked salmon, cucumber, and egg. The rest was okay!

I would definitely recommend the Peninsula for afternoon tea. It's an experience. When the harp player is there of course!
