The museum displays a selection of pre-Columbian gold and other metal alloys, such as Tumbaga, and contains the largest collection of gold artifacts in the world in its exhibition rooms on the second and third floors. Together with pottery, stone, shell, wood and textile objects, these items, made of – to indigenous cultures – a sacred metal, testify to the life and thought of the different societies which lived in present-day Colombia before the Spanish conquest of the Americas.

One of the most well known museums in South America, the Museo del Oro is home to thousands of gold artifacts recovered from Colombia’s original tribes. Spanning several floors and multiple rooms, the museum takes you on a fascinating journey. At the time of my visit, the entrance fee was dirt cheap - less than a dollar.

If you are going to visit only one museum in Colombia, make it the Gold Museum in Bogota. This museum has a spectacular collection of pre-Columbine artifacts, gold, etc. It gives you a glimpse into the life and work of the civilisation before the arrival of the Spanish. The museum is very well-run and the exhibits arranged and displayed beautifully. The entrance is free for all on Sunday.

One of the impressive displays of archeological wealth I've ever seen! And best of all, it's located in the heart of historic old Bogota - providing an air of colonial splendor not universally found throughout the capital city!

This is a must see if you are in Bogota. The gold museum has an amazing collection of artifacts from pre-columbian civilizations. Many if not most of the artifacts are made from gold, and the skill of the gold craftsmen is really impressive.

This is a very impressive museum, especially the last circular room where you are literally surrounded by artifacts. The collection is extensive and the location in the heart of the city is ideal.

The Museo del Oro is a most definite five star museum. It is for me, one of the finest and most impressive museum's of it's kind, in all of the world. There are thousands of Pre-Colombian artifacts, and the final room of gold is the icing on this most delicious cake!

Plan to spend 2-3 hours looking around. The collection focuses on the uses of gold before the Spaniards arrived.

Of all Bogotá’s many museums, perhaps the most popular and most rewarding is the recently renovated Museo del Oro. Housing over 6,500 gold and ceramic pieces, it’s a dramatic walk through Colombia’s rich and fascinating history with gold production. You will find Museo del Oro in the city’s central district. If you only see one museum in Bogotá, it should be this one.

I loved the way this museum connects gold working and metal working to the cosmology and culture of native Colombians. The connections between the symbolism of the natural world and their magical take on life was really special.

Very nice and interesting museum. Since it's a small museum it makes the visit a very enjoyable one. It offers guided tours in English and the web page is very informative.
