A boutique hotel with a good location near Back Bay. The building was original a YWCA and it still houses a theater on the second floor. The hotel doesn't offer breakfast although there's a chain Italian restaurant in the building. Luckily, you'd be within walking distance to a lot of things in Back Bay. The lobby and common area had a charm to it, and the rooms are on the smaller side but has everything you need from refrigerator to iron and ironing board. There's no fitness center in the hotel although apparently they will give you a pass to a nearby gym.

Above all Hotel 140 is comfortable. It's not too fancy, but not too expensive. The building also houses a theater, which was nice, and the italian restaurant - name escapes me - adjacent to the lobby was good and convenient. There 's a common room with a TV, in addition to those in the room. As you enter, you'll be swept by the classic architecture and elevator music. As far as boutique hotels go, the standard queen room wasn't very remarkable but no complaints with service or accommodations can be made.

Juxtaposed with the historical appearance of the building, Hotel 140 offers a modern, luxurious, and cozy atmosphere within the confines of their walls. Hailed as one of the most affordable hotels in Back Bay, Hotel 140 far exceeded my expectations of just being a “cheap” hotel. Each room is furnished with a bed, television, and refrigerator, essentially the basics of any hotel. Guest passes to a nearby fitness club are offered to clients who desire a gym or pool. However, the biggest factor that put Hotel 140 over the top was the friendliness and warmth of their staff. Athena, the manager, runs a very close-knit staff that seems very relaxed, yet professional at the same time. We were even cracking jokes in broken Spanish with Pedro, one of the maintenance workers. Overall, Hotel 140 is a great value hotel with a wonderful staff and unbeatable location.

First to Review

I'm personally more partial to hotels with a bit more character and a boutiquey feel, so Hotel 140 was right on the mark. You can tell the building is on the older side, but it still feels clean and the interior has been modernized. One of the staff members told me that the building was originally constructed as the first YWCA in the country, and still houses a school and a performance center apart from the hotel. It's worth noting, however, that they do not offer breakfast of any kind. Location is top notch.
