Description
One of Boston's premier oyster houses, Neptune's raw bar is well loved but their fish is excellent as well. Its small North End location is intimate and charming.

After a ton of research and deliberation, there were just too many articles and reviews stating that Neptune was one of the best, if not the best seafood spot in town. Knowing that they don't take reservations and the wait would be pretty substantial, I was reluctant to spend over 90 minutes waiting in line, but in the end, that's just how things worked out.

The restaurant itself is small and can only seat maybe 30-40 people tops, so it's understandable the wait times can be up to 3 hours on a busy day. Being that they're overcrowded, you're more than likely to share a table with others if you have a small party; either seated at the crowded tables or at the bar.

As famished as I was, oysters were a great way to start the meal off. I can't specifically recall what oysters they were, but they were East Coast based. They were cleanly shucked and decently sized. The clam chowder and lobster roll (which they supposedly are known for) was severely disappointing. Though the portions were generous, overall texture and taste was bland. All I said to myself in my head was "a 90 minute wait.....for THIS???". I've had better lobster rolls in SF unfortunately.

I think this is one of the places that just got overhyped. Maybe they had an off day, or my palate had an off day, or I just didn't appreciate the plain-ness of the roll...but this was one of the "I wish I had picked another place" during my East Coast trip moment.

Great food, trendy, be prepared for a wait if you're from out of town but it is worth it.

Very small restaurant with the oyster bar facing the window. A fantastic cold bar selection! Great wines and entrées too!

Obviously the oysters are great but also try the Jonnycake and octopus salad. Also note that they only serve beer and wine.

Don't miss the best lobster roll in downtown Boston. It's truly a New England experience. Add on some oysters and a clam chowder, too.

Delicious oysters. The lobster roll and the fried clams are good. Truth be told I'd come here for the oysters again any day, but for a solid lobster roll or fried clams I'd head for a table at Yankee Lobster Company. That being said, Neptune Oyster has an amazing small space and a cozy atmosphere, but expect at least an hour long wait for a table.

Our favorite restaurant experience in Boston. Can be a long wait as its tiny and super popular. You can grab a drink in the area (North End) while you wait.

Absolutely one of the best fresh seafood in the North End! The place is quite small, so we had to wait. It was definitely worth it. Do try their fresh oysters, fresh clam, clam chowder and Neptune burger!

Not a day goes by that I don't think about the BEST lobster rolls anyone can ever have. I am a snob for super hearty food, and by hearty, I mean "stop-my-heart" butter. You see, there are 2 major ways that a lobster roll can be prepared, either cold-mayo-y, or hot butter-y. Neptunes is the kind that makes your hot butter drawers melt.

4 hours...4 HOURS?!...Yes, that was the quoted wait for 2 people on a late weekday afternoon. Thankfully, they take phone numbers and will call you when you are within 10 minutes of being seated. I found myself 8 blocks away in the middle of a rainstorm at that instant, but I ran like the wind. I ran like my butter depended on it. Super tip if you don't mind dining alone.....I often saw single chairs available at the bar. Keep that in mind.

-=-Lobster Roll-=- At 27 bucks, it's the single most priciest. Never mind that it's served with fries....27 bucks. No lobster roll is ever large. Think of a folded in half wonderbread. An irresponsible eater would get this down in 3 bites. Melt in your mouth, seriously.

-=-Seafood Cioppino-=- This was a pricey excursion too, but seafood always is. The soup base is always the best. There's a punch your belly spice. Know what you are getting into before you buy this. You might regret not....buying a second lobster roll instead.

-=-Kushi Oysters-=- I'm not oyster expert, but these were tiny. Sure, they might have tasted fresh, and came from Neptune's own dedicated farm, but I've had bigger and better elsewhere. Shop around, they have a huge selection here.

The oysters here are amazing. Totally worth the wait! Their clam chowder is the best I've ever had. The restaurant is small and they won't pressure you to finish your meal but that means there will be a long wait. Be prepared to wait an hour or more but there is a lot in the area to check out.

They do not take reservations. If it is full, you can try "Mar" a few blocks away and great for seafood as well.

Our favorite seafood restaurant. Very small, popular and does not take reservations so plan on arriving very early if you don't want to wait. Or put your name in and walk through the North End while you wait.

There's always a queue and the waiting time can be ridiculously long. However, the wait is worth it when you get in. The oysters are fresh and the famous lobster rolls is good in all its gourmet glory.

Best way to go here is to eat as party of one. You will be seated right away. If you show up as party of two then expect an average of an hour wait. They will call you via phone.

Their oysters were good but not impressive enough for me to pay more.

Their Lobster was amazing... Pricey... But amazing. I would recommend getting good the hot version.

Their cioppino was pretty good as well... Again it's pricey but worth experiencing.

If you're fed up with waiting then there's a lobster roll shop that's pretty awesome for its price next door. And they come with a bag of chips.

Neptunes is in the heart of little Italy. The lobster rolls are famous here for good reason. It's a bit pricey, but worth if because it's that good. The wait is always over an hour, but there's a ton to see and do in the area to entertain while you're waiting.

Go for the clam chowder and their lobster roll! Their lobster roll is made absolutely to perfection and the clams in the clam chowder is so fresh that you could taste it. Rated number 1 clam chowder in Boston by the Improper Bostonian.

The Neptunes on Piggyback dish at this restaurant rivals the sliders at Island Creek. Here, its served like an open-faced sandwich with crispy oysters, Berkshire pig, a great golden raisin confiture, and pistachio aioli.

A little bit pricey, but the oysters are fabulous! :)

Recommendations
*don't eat the bread or crackers? it's not worth the stomach space
*the lobster roll was good, but it's all about the oysters here :)
*get the kusshi oyster: it's small, but it has a zesty cucumber taste
*come here for a snack instead of lunch
