Description
On the East side of the Continental Divide, just 16 miles from Bozeman, Bridger Bowl is a "locals' area" known for its incredibly light fluffy snow - fondly referred to as "cold smoke". Reasonable ... Read more
prices and affordable (but good) restaurants characterize this family friendly area. For the most part, ski runs are for beginners or intermediate athletes, but the more advanced skiers may want to check out the ungroomed terrain above the lift with cliffs and gullies. Transceivers required. There is a great ski school, with a "learn-to-ski-in-3" program.

Most amazing home-town, non-profit ski resort. We are lucky to have 3 world-class ski resorts within 1 hour's drive, and Bridger Bowl is the closest, at 17 miles from downtown Bozeman.

Amazing summer hiking from the M trail all the way up Bridger Ridge. Enjoy the Raptor Fest in October, where migrating golden eagles can be spotted en-masse with binoculars.

Our favorite downhill ski area, where the locals go to ski the Cold Smoke! Only 16 miles up Bridger Canyon, so about 22 from the Hideaway, it is actually directly on the otherside of the Bridger Mountains to the East.

Only about 16 miles from Bozeman MT this little gem of a ski area draws lots of locals and families with great ski school options for kids. Lots of fun great for families with a nice mix of ski options and plenty of easy to challenging runs though none of the runs are very long. For the more advanced skiers still tons of stuff in area or bring your transceiver and find a buddy and try the expert only hikable terrain off the Ridge or Schlasman's. Four lodges (Jim Bridger has the beer!) Very affordable half the price of Big Sky, inexpensive rentals and there is a free bus from Bozeman fairgrounds in the winter so you don't have to hassle with parking.

Forget Big Sky - this is where the locals ski in Bozeman. The area is awesome - lots of varied terrain, from beginner to very advanced (try Avalanche gulch if you like it steep!). But it's advantages are in its size - half the price of ski areas in California for twice the mountain, no lines, and inexpensive ski school for the kids. We had 2 amazing powder days here and had so much fun!

Awesome ski resort with great runs for everyone. It is much cheaper than in bigger ski resorts (about half price) and almost no lines. The ski school is small and great too!

Where the locals go and affordable. Great extreme skiing and the opportunity for lots of powder. Plan on bringing an avalanche beacon, partner, and shovel if you want to hike the ridge. Recently expanded the family ski area.

Bridger Bowl, just 16 miles up scenic Bridger Canyon, is easy to find from the Olive Branch since we are 1/2 block from the street that goes there! Lift tickets are 1/2 of Big Sky Resort tickets, 1/2 the crowd and 1/3 the drive. It caters to families as much as it does the extreme crowd with a superb blend of powder and groomed, blue and green to black and double diamond. Hike to the famous ridge skiing or access steep, deep powder in the sidecountry. Stay in town at the Olive Branch, and you can still make the drive over to ski Big Sky and Moonlight for more downhill, or head to a multitude of groomed and ungroomed XC trails all within a half hour drive. You've read about it, now ski it!
