architect, Miklós Ybl. It is one of the rare performance houses that, outside of shows, has regular tours. The foyer greets all guests with a grand double staircase and detailed marble columns supporting the arches. The work of Hungarian's finest artists adorn the walls throughout. With a huge gilded chandelier and a ceiling depicting the Greek gods of Olympus, the Budapest Opera House is a show before a single note is released.

It's beautiful like a world class opera. They have mainly Hungarian performances.

The best acoustic experience you can get here is in this world-known musical institution that will delight you with the incredible performances by all the famous composers like Mozart, Beethoven and many more. And the best, it's cheap, very cheap! You can get tickets for Euro 2!!!

This opera house is beautifully decorated as one would expect from a world class opera house. There is a fee to tour this gorgeous building. Part of the tour includes singers performing three arias.

Nice neo-rennesaince building on the Andrássy Avenue, opened in 1884. Two years later stopped here also the first underground of the continent. Before an opera at evening You can make a fast shopping in the surrounding luxury stores or drink a coffee in one nice old traditional café as Művész or Café de Paris (Alexandra Bookcafé). The schedule of the theatre You find here: www.opera.hu

I saw the National Ballet perform at the Opera House in Budapest. This is a grand opera house in the old world style. Glamourous, traditional, with the act of attending feeling as important as what's happening on stage. I loved the gilt and red carpets everywhere.

I've never been in the opera house but I've passed a few times on long walks down Andrassy Street. It resembles other turn of the century architecture that I've seen in Vienna but in typical Hungarian style it's a bit more eccentric. The main feature that I noticed is the clam-shell-like awning over the main entrance.

The Opera House in Budapest is simply gorgeous. I saw "Salome" here, and there really isn't a bad seat in the house. The subtitles will almost always be in Hungarian, so as an English speaker watching/listening to a German opera with Hungarian subtitles flashing off to the side, it can be a little confusing. My advice is to close your eyes and just listen, or to look around at the beautiful architecture.

I am really sad that the opera house was closed when we were nearby. The exterior of the building was beautiful, so I do hope to see the inside someday.

Unfortunately the Opera House wasn't open when we visited as we really were wanting to go inside. Although we couldn't see the interior we did spend a rather nice morning walking around the building and enjoying how beautiful it is.

The intimate, old setting was awesome. We got cheap tickets up in the balcony for Madame Butterfly and the acoustics and view were great. Beautiful time, lots of last minute student types showed up and sat in the aisles and steps around us. It was pure magic. Great acoustics, impressive history, opulent decor. Cheap drinks at intermission. Beautiful.

Impressive opera house, with ornate and impressive decor. It's a neo-Renaissance masterpiece built in 1884, and apparently money was no object. Be sure to check out the main staircase, the foyer, the murals in the foyer, and the chandelier. Also, statues of Hungary's two greatest composers (Liszt and Erkel) watch over the entrance.
