Szimpla Kert is a fantastic place for both daytime and nightlife. During the weekends you can find markets during the days where you can buý meat, cheese, food, drinks, bread - CHEAP and SO good. During the evenings it's packed with people, bars, music and streetfood. Make sure you're there in time though since there can be a line.

The best bar we’ve been , the oldest ruin bar is fabulous! Endless different rooms, filled with all the stuff you can image, relaxed atmosphere, cheap drinks! Great place!

The number one place when it comes to bars is this “ruin pub” that inspired all other pubs of this kind in Budapest. It's almost a labyrinth of rooms and corridors. The bar on the second floor, facing the street is my fave, calmer than the others, very friendly staff and awesome soundtrack.

Szimpla Kert blew my mind. The first ruin bar of it's type, the owners got a chance to expand in the current building back in 2005. Now, well established, its eclectic decoration will keep you exploring the location for days on end if you so choose.

Absolutely LOVED this ruin bar, this is really a unique experience you cannot miss when visiting Budapest. Experienced this as a great place to meet international and local students and enjoy some well priced coctails!

Great ruin bar. Prices a bit expensive, but always crowded. All the decoration is great, if you are lucky to get a sit even better!

Cool ruin bar. Didn't know what to expect but the bartender at the very end of the building spoke English and gave good recommendations. I loved the outdoor space while also being cozy despite the chilly air. Had a good time over good drinks.

Good for a drink in the evening among some fairly eclectic decor, the live music is often interesting and the Sunday Farmers' market is also worth visiting.

One of the popular "ruin bars" of Budapest - great atmosphere and fun vibes. It's located very close to many good hostels as well, in an old building on a lively street. The decor is amazing and it's always a good night here.

A ruins bar where people have taken all of the junk that you did not want, and created amazing art with it. Of course you can recognize it now, but everywhere you look in the busy bar is another creation that only a special mind would have initially seen as art. This place is amazing.”

This place is a must visit. It's great for people who want to unwind with a few beers after a long day taking in the sights and sounds of Budapest. It is also a great place to pre-game before a night on the town. Make sure to get there early though otherwise you'll find yourself at the end of line that goes half way around the block.

Ruin pubs are something special about Budapest. After the arrival of the financial crises around 2008. opened from day to day plenty of simple cafés, bistros, snack places, beer gardens, clubs in "ruined" buildings of the Old Jewish Quarter which was waiting for a renovation since a long time. At the firts time these places offered cheap drinks, simple foods for students, tourists with small budget with alternative, flea market feeling. After years it got a big trend. Budapest is famous now about its ruin bars, pubs and clubs. Each has its own style, its own feeling and its community.

The legendary Szimpla Kert is the most complex and best-known ruin pub in Budapest. Located at 14 Kazinczy Street offers a variety of programs every day of the week: concerts, parties, activities for the elderly, exhibitions, a farmers' market, and numerous cultural events are all held in the same spot. The place is mostly occupied by foreigners, but there is no lack of Hungarian guests either, thanks to the concerts. This is a popular, homey place for friendly get-togethers. It sports peculiar interior-design solutions, a mix of styles, and the eclectic vibe of urban life. A must-see for everyone!

Met lots of great people here. Fun place to hang out!

This is apparently the first of the "ruin" bars that are oh-so-trendy in Budapest right now. And some people say it's the best. Lots of travellers pass through. It's huge. Has lots of rooms and corners to hang out it. Several bars. Hookah. Secluded rooms upstairs if you want to a more chill vibe. And pretty decent DJs (though no one really dances).

This is one of THE original 'ruin bars' (Kerts) in Budapest and it really is a MUST see when you visit. Great crowd almost any night and unique atmosphere which anyone will appreciate (young or old) at least for 1 drink. In the summer months it gets REALLY crowded but is large enough so never a line.

When I first went to Szimple Kart I thought I had found a huge secret, and maybe it was more of a secret in 2009. I remember it being difficult to find, just a little metal door in the street which led into a cavernous, multi-level bar with bright cars turned into seats, bathtub sofas under the stairs, a room full of TVs, and the cheapest bottle of wine I've ever bought in a bar (around £4 I think).

No one goes to Budapest without visiting Szimpla these days and it's obvious why - I recommend this place to anyone who visits.
