Local from Buenos Aires

I liked the petite nature of this hostel. There wasn’t a lot of communal areas to spend time relaxing in, but that just helped to create an even more intimate and friendly environment. It wouldn’t be a place that I would put at the top of my list for Buenos Aires, because there wasn’t that much going on to get involved with. I really like hostels which organise tours and nights out and this hostel was just a quiet place to stay. Having said that, I can really see how someone who likes to travel alone and spend time alone would really enjoy staying in this hostel. The bar was pretty well stocked and the lady on reception and the warm tones on the walls made everything look cozy and inviting. Nice place, but just not for me - I need a little bit more energy from the hostels that I stay in.

A hostel with a great social scene and excellent price! This hostel is massive so there’s plenty of people for you to meet and party with.
Fantastic location on Avenida de Mayo in Buenos Aires downtown and it’s right in front of the historic Café Tortoni where you can see live tango shows. Be careful in the street around here at night though as there usually aren’t that many people around.
Some of the staff are really friendly and helpful but it’s a mixed bag. This place is the cheapest I’ve found in the area. Another bonus is that it’s really clean and the rooms are generously sized, even in the dorm rooms. Acceptable bathrooms and decent breakfast: what more could you ask from a hostel!?
The bar here is in the middle of the hostel so if there’s a late party the noise does reverberate. Don’t stay here if you don’t like partying.

Local from Buenos Aires, Argentina

We rang the doorbell at Avenue Hostel for about ten minutes till someone finally buzzed us in, but once we got there in it was really cool. Inside, the main room is this huge open courtyard where they have a bar with drinks and coffee and snacks and lots of tables, and where is breakfast is served. All the rooms are around the edges, and it's open up to the huge skylight about four floors up, and there are rooms around the opening on those floors too. The six-person dorm is really big and empty, it just has three bunk beds in a big room with really high ceilings. The tv room is also really big and they have parties there sometimes. The whole place seems incredibly relaxed and social. The price is really a great deal for the location and room sizes, it is an excellent value.

40 pesos for a 4-dorm bed with breakfast - august 2011

Clean dorms but noisy for those with a view on the avenue
Quite difficult to cook because the kitchen is not really equiped
Very good Wi-Fi even at the 4th floor
Good location on the avenue 9 de Mayo
