Local from Buenos Aires

This hostel was clean and simple. Located on a quiet street in San Telmo, the policy is no noise after midnight. This is not a party hostel – you’ll find people of all ages calmly milling about. Along with a continental breakfast, WiFi, and lockers in the hallways, the hostel offers walking and biking tours, as well as excursions to go see tango shows. It includes a bar, kitchen, and outdoor terrace. The staff consisted of a group of quite friendly young people. When I walked in, they were hanging out by the hostel bar and quickly made me feel welcome among them. For a quiet and relaxed stay in a cool neighborhood (San Telmo), I recommend Che Lagarto.

Local from Buenos Aires

The garden area was pleasant. The walls on either side were pretty high and there were huge trees which acted as natural canopies, so there was plenty of shade from the hot sun and it was a nice place to chill out in without being seen or getting too hot. The kitchen was also pretty well-equipped, but it was annoying to find it it was shut for about four hours in the middle of the day. I wasn’t quite sure why these hours had been established. The communal area was o.k., but fairly small to be honest. Everyone was friendly enough and everything worked fine, but it lacked energy and excitement. It wasn’t the kind of hostel which helped travelers to meet other travelers, head out into the city and get to know the neighbourhood. There are definitely better hostels in Buenos Aires to stay in.

I stayed here my first night in Buenos Aires. Only a couple of the staff speak english so it was a challenge to communicate. There's supposed to be free wi fi but O was not able to successfully connect the whole time I was there. They also provide free breakfast. The place has an old school elevator where you have to manually close the door. This is very helpful if you have a big heavy luggage :).
