One of the best things about this hostel is that there are plenty of small private rooms available, if that's what you need. It's the heart of San Telmo, which means there are plenty of nice, historic bars you can visit, and you'll be very close to the fair on Sundays. There's a communal kitchen you can use, plenty of space in the common room to surf the web and socialize with travellers, and beautiful patio with a grill in case you and others feel like making an asado. The bedroom are comfortable and have all the basics covered, and the staff keeps a folders with all kinds of activities you can sign up for if interested. There's also wi-fi and breakfast included, and plenty of little markets where you can buy if you want to cook lunch or dinner.

By far, the best service that I was offered by this hostel was a SUBE card. The SUBE is a plastic card that I used to get on all public transport. It’s difficult to get one as a tourist. The process takes time, but the hostel provided the SUBE for a refundable deposit of 50 pesos. I hadn’t seen any other hostel in Buenos Aires offering that. The kitchen was awesome too. The stove is huge - almost like an aga - and there was loads of space to store food. The receptionist was from Brasilia, Brazil. She was very kind and very efficient. I was impressed by the maintenance of the dorms in this hostel too. Everything was in really good condition.

Upon walking into Puerto Limon's lobby, my attention was immediately captured by a series of wooden window frames dangling from the ceiling, followed by an Andy Warhol-like painting of Marilyn Monroe suspended over a comfortable-looking living room area, in the corner of which presided a massive and ancient typewriter. If you're looking for an alternative to the reggae-happy hostel scene, I highly recommend you check out Puerto Limon for a taste of its bohemian charm. I was enchanted by the décor as well as the kind and helpful desk attendant, a young woman with a Portuguese lilt. Located next to a pizzeria, “La Moderna,” as well as a fruit and vegetable stand and a “carniceria,” you’ll have everything at your disposition to make dinner in Puerto Limon’s roomy kitchen and then enjoy your meal on its outdoor patio, alongside travelers from the world over. And of course, as you’ll be staying in the heart of San Telmo, you’ll get to soak in the neighborhood’s old “tanguero” magic.

The hostel is centrally located in San Telmo. The frontage is very small so you have to keep an eye on the building number or you'll miss it. The staff are very friendly and helpful in recommending places to go. They also provide free breakfast, bread, butter and various jams/spread. It has free wi fi but the connection becomes weak once you are in your room. Also, the rooms are not automatically cleaned everyday, you have to tell the front desk to have it cleaned.
