In busy Recoleta, you will find this monument surrounded by mopeds, cars, busses, and screaming paro groups. There's always a lot of activity going on, but it's certainly great to look at. Even at the McDonald's on the street, you can see how great it is and take all your touristy pictures in private if you'd like.

Our home is located just two blocks from the widest street in the world, 9 de Julio. From there, you can catch a bus to the Obelisco (or a nice long walk) .
It is situated on the intersection of Corrientes Street, which has many theatres, shops & restaurants.

Obelisco is an icon of Buenos Aires, located in the Plaza de la República and my hotel was just right across from it.

Commercial center of Buenos Aires, and a pretty good place to people watch while having a coffee at one of the many nearby cafes. At night with all the LED signs it feels a bit like Times Square.

Don't expect something amazing, don't expect anything a lot different from any other monument or obelisk over the world. What makes this place really different are all the stories, all the tangos singing about this obelisk in particular, the 9 de Julio avenue, feeling that you are in that place that inspired so many people.

If you want to really enjoy it, read a bit about it, and you will feel the magic behind it.

NOTE: Be careful at night, as usual, in Buenos Aires.

The Obelisk was erected in 1936 as a symbol of the Argentine nation. Saint Nicholas Church (the first place where the Argentinian flag was flown) was demolished to make way for the Obelisk.

The Obelisk monument stands at the intersection of avenues Corrientes and 9 de Julio. It's visible from different spots around that area, but you can get a lovely shot of it standing down from Avenida de Mayo.

Another aw-inspiring monument. Placed right int he middle of the widest street in the world. The obsolesce is huge and signifies the first place the Argentinian flag was flown.

A very famous monument, in the middle of 9 July avenue, the biggest Avenue in Buenos Aires. The Obelisco was build in just 30 days!

A very tall Obelisk in the center of the the central Buenos Aires. There isn't a lot here but this obelisk and a lot of traffic. This is does happen to be the center of commerce. If shopping is what you want, there is a lot around.

Obelisco in the middle of one of the middle throughways in Buenos Aires is a great landmark to help orient self. There are so many obelisks around the world, and this one is pretty tall and iconic.

Honestly, is pretty nice but it's far for being a wow place.
The Obelisco itself is interesting but is the area around it that make me like the place.
The wide avenue, the signs, the stores, people walking around, this is what set the tone here.
