This leafy Peninsula suburb of San Francisco has a small but delightful downtown that punches above its weight class in cuisine. The city is older than many of its neighbors, incorporated after the 1906 earthquake as a calm respite from the devastated city to the north. That reputation still holds today, and residents who want to be within striking ... Read more
distance of the city or the airport, but surrounded by single-family homes and good schools, find a home here. Caltrain bisects the town, and stops at the two main commercial corridors in town: the older downtown area around Broadway, or further south, the commercial area around Burlingame Avenue. Both are endowed with good restaurants. Hotels with shuttles to both the airport and downtown populate the more industrial area on the waterfront.

Rains are fairly common during the winter, but almost unheard of from May through October, so if you are planning on taking advantage of the area’s many outdoor activities (rather than haunting the halls of tech offices), this is the best time to visit.

Slightly urban suburban. Fabricated but not entirely without charm. Burlingame Avenue is the main strip -- a mix of local spots and major chains. Close to SFO so not a bad place for a quick rendezvous while changing planes. Little of interest to tourists.

A great town with excellent shopping perks! There is a nice outdoor mall-eqsue area downtown with a Sephora and other large retailers. Full of quaint coffee shops, plenty outdoor seats, and a overall a great place to enjoy some window shopping and being outside.

Located 10 minutes from the San Francisco International Airport, the Burlingame Museum of PEZ Memorabilia has been the cultural highlight of Burlingame, California for over 15 years. You can see an example of every Pez candy dispenser ever sold, plus exhibits featuring classic toys. Great fun!

What is otherwise a suburbia town, Burlingame actually packs in quite a package of shopping, dining, and recreation. Both Broadway and Burlingame Ave are popular shopping streets with stores like Trina Turk, Lulu Lemon, and BR; dining options like Stacks for brunch and various ethnic foods; and recreation like badminton and go cart racing.

I find it the nicest little town in the bay area, even though coming from Europe I do not love any of the Bay area towns.
