okra, bacon - wrapped enoki mushrooms, etc. And the sake keeps flowing!!! If you're looking to dine on delicious Japanese tapas, look no further than Mokutanya. Located in Burlingame, the restaurant offers a large menu of little bites that are sure to satisfy your palate. Most of the tapas range from $4-6 and come in skewers of 2-3 pieces, so if you're hungry, you'll end up ordering a bunch, which could knock a hole in your wallet. But once you taste the tapas, you'll understand why you keep ordering and ordering. We ordered the regular and spicy wagyu beef, duck breast, chicken hearts and gizzard, chicken wings, lamb, bacon-wrapped enoki mushrooms, pork belly, salmon, cod, okra, chills, and $1 oysters. All were delicious, especially the bacon-wrapped mushrooms and pork belly! Excellent hot and cold sake also. The restaurant decor is modern-chic and the dining tables are separated by glass windows and customers sit in the traditional Japanese way with shoes off, so it's a cool blend of modern/traditional dining at its best. We came here for dinner on New Year's Eve 2013, so it was a wonderful experience. Give Mokutanya a try!

The plaza is pretty small and only has limited parking. We got lucky and managed to find a spot in the lot for dinner. I'm not sure what people do when the lot is full; park up the street?

The service here is great, the waiters/waitresses are really nice and helpful. They don't have large tables for big groups (we were a group of 20), but they accommodated us by giving us 4 pods that seat 5 people. In the area that we were seated, we had to take off our shoes (this area is a bit disorganized...when other diners take out their shoes, you might return to find that your shoes have been moved/separated from each other.

The food here is pretty pricey. The grilled meats and apps really add up. While the hamachi carpaccio was delicious, it wasn't much food in the end. The grilled meats range from $3-$4 for ONE SKEWER. I understand that they give you quality meat, but this is too much. You'll really have to keep this in mind when dining here. I'd suggest ordering a couple skewers among your group to take a bit of each to taste, then order a bowl of ramen or something else on the menu to fill up. This is what we did. The tonkotsu ramen was decent.

Overall, it's a good spot for a fancy dinner and a date (dim lighting, interesting atmosphere and dining experience with the seating arrangement), it's just pricey. We shared a couple of apps, each had a bowl of ramen, and got some beers and soju and paid over $30 each. It was a fun night since we were there for a college reunion dinner.

Tip: check in on Facebook and show your waiter/waitress to get a free beer!

All glass enclosed dining pods with sunken low tables with foot/leg holes. Cool atmosphere, $1 oyster night M and T ! Chinese run though. Food is decent and service is a bit young. Overall experience is go here for the atmosphere, which is chic and sexy. Load up on the large alcohol list, then the food will taste more remarkable than it really is. Good company always helps!

Admittedly, this place is known for its yakitori and I did not try that. I actually meant to come back for that one day. I went for ramen, which was just decent and took forever to come out. That being said, this place has some sick ambiance. I loved the seating area as well. It's also open crazy late.

This might be my new favorite restaurant! As others have said, the interior is very modern and sleek. Black walls, sunken tables, and glass partitions separating the tables. They have a wide selection of yakitori and everything we had was great. Standouts for me were the karaage, which was crispy and a bit spicy, and the beef tongue, which was tender and tasty. I heard it's open late, so something to keep in mind when going out on the peninsula.

Great yakitori restaurant in Burlingame. Sleek decor and feel with each table having its own glass walls. Just take your shoes off and slide into your own fishbowl-like booth. The food is great. I highly recommend the spicy beef, the bacon-wrapped enoki mushrooms and the karaage! You really can't go wrong here! Also, if you leave your phone number with them, they will text you when they are having special promotions like a $1 happy hour or things like that. We didn't have the oysters but I heard they are great as well. The tonkatsu ramen is also very good, even though it's not their specialty. Because of the limited and non-flexible nature of the restaurant seating, definitely make reservations for dinner. They are also open until 2am on weekends, so you can also try your luck without a reservation later at night.

Mokutanya is a great yakitori restaurant with a wide selection of items served in a modern, Asian setting. The tables are divided by thick sheets of glass and seating is done at low tables, where diners sit after having removed their shoes. The host and wait staff are friendly and orders are delivered promptly. While their location isn't ideal, and their parking limited, Mokutanya is definitely worth the visit.

Mokutanya brings yummy yakitori and ramen to Burlingame. They have a very extentive yakitori menu as well as huge sake menu. Restaurant opens and serves food and drinks until 130am! Happy hour specials available most weekdays

The restaurant's decor is cool and cozy at the same time. All the sunken tables are separated by a glass partition ensuring some privacy in conservations. The service is great, the food is delicious, the ambience wonderful, and the opening hours accomodating. What a great find and addition in a town that already has many notable eateries.
