This charming fishing village sits on a series of beautiful coves, which you can walk to and enjoy the ancient culture as well as the natural beauty of the Costa Brava. Highly recommended.

Calella de Palafrugell, a sleepy city on the Costa Brava (Wild Coast) is what beachgoing's meant to be. No noisy music from a fellow beachgoer's boombox here, but rather the sounds of boats taking scuba divers to the reefs and a soft lapping of the sea on the pebbly shore. The population of hundreds swells to tens of thousands the first Saturday of July for the Habaneras festival. People arrive by land and sea to enjoy the Cuban music brought to the area by Catalan fisherman and Cremat, the cinnamon-infused flaming rum drink. If you're there when it's not Habaneras time, enjoy a laze on the pebble shore, dip in the clear sea (bring goggles to get a better look at the bustling sea life below) and a hearty paella (seafood and saffron rice dish) afterwards.

We love the true Costa Brava, the villages and coastline between Palamos and Begur; simply beautiful.

If ever there was a quaint and endearing coastal town, Calella de Palafrugell is it. Pastel colored homes line the beach and it's deep inlet provides privacy and reprieve from the greater ocean in the distance. Whether relaxing on the idyllic beach or wandering the rambling streets up into the hills above the shore, time seems to stand still here and it's a great place to clear your head and refresh.

This is a very beautiful place on the Costa Brava. It can get really crowded on weekends and probably in high season. We experienced both of them - definitely enjoying the quieter one more. The water is crystal clear, the sand is soft and coarse. Fun to go snorkelling since there are many rocks.

This is one of several former fishing villages that now draw tourists to the sandy coves and clear turquoise water. There a a number of oceanside restaurants and bars, and places to rent kayaks, stand up paddle boards and even to go scuba diving off the coast. Great place to chill out on the beach, enjoy fresh seafood and crisp white wine.
