Calgary Vacations

Alberta’s largest city, Calgary, lies at the division between smooth prairie lands and the jagged peaks of the Rocky Mountains, and for many travelers is the jumping off point to popular ski destinations such as Jasper and Banff. Or, you're one of the million plus cowgirls or cowboys who descend upon Calgary in July for the Calgary Stampede, the ... Read more
most famous rodeo in the world. For kids, the Telus World of Science Calgary, Calgary Zoo, Calaway Park (one of Canada’s largest amusement parks) and the Olympic Plaza won’t fail to impress. Couples can enjoy the day strolling the beautiful grounds of the Prince’s Island Park and later grabbing tickets to a Calgary Flames hockey match in the Pengrowth Saddledome. The growth of Calgary has led to impressive hotel upgrades, and luxury digs are plentiful. Try a night at the theater; Calgary has a well-developed amateur and professional performing arts scene, or hit the streets at one of Calgary’s myriad clubs or bars.

shuts down for the Calgary Stampede, attracting more than a million visitors to its rodeos, parades and concerts. If you’re one of those visitors, be sure to book your hotel far in advance. By the time winter rolls around, the city has transformed into an icy cold landscape that is occasionally broken up by warm Chinook winds. Many hotels shut down; however, the places that stay open will give you some great deals, and you’ll get to see a different side of the city.

The Canadian "cow town". Love those names "Shaganappi Trail" etc. Pretty in summer but a bit of a frozen grit blasted wasteland in winter.

This has been my hometown for almost 30 years. It does not have great cultural institutions like major cities such as London, Paris, Rome or New York, but the proximity to the mountains and all the outdoor pursuits they offer are a major reason to visit. While here, there are some pretty good restaurants to enjoy.

Calgary - Cow Town, the home of The Flames. The biggest city in Alberta is the start, end and highlight of many a trip to this neck of the woods. Home to the Stampede a vibrant restaurant and bar scene and a stack of cowboy culture. Giddy-up!

This is now (2013) my home base again after being out and about this beautiful world. I have lived in this city for half of my life. This city is only a hour away from the mountains and the best skiing in the world. It is also home to many festivals and of course the Calgary Stampede. Lots to do, many many different cultures mixed together, great food, music, theater and dance. The city have a Louge and an in-city ski hill for winter fun and lots of golf courses in the summer and parks etc.

Good place for ice wine and nature. Love the Lake Louis in the national park. Went there twice, once in summer, once in winter. I love the winter better, just because you get to ice-skate on a lake IN THE NATURE. And there is also a hot spring pool around too.
