Such a memorable experience. Make sure you walk the whole way down and riding the elevator up is optional .. visited while I was pregnant so after walking down to the bottom I was ready to ride the elevator definitely a place to see more then once.

An amazing geological site! I highly recommend walking through the natural entrance. But the elevator will take you directly to the Big Room. Plenty of exterior hiking paths as well.

Awesome place to visit! Hot and sunny outside, then completely surrounded by darkness and cool rocks inside.
Need to be moderately fit for the walk back up as it's a fairly steep and very dark descent.

Book the King's Tour plus get there by 8:30am if you want to go into the Lower Tavern. They only do that at 9am. I loved walking in the Natural Entrance.

Carlsbad Caverns was the highlight of my trip to New Mexico. Although it's located in the desert near the Texas border, it's certainly worth the trip. My wife and I entered by the natural entrance, which I think was the right choice. The winding path descends over 750 feet in less than a mile. It got us into the spirit of the place as we passed through chamber after chamber filled with stalactites, stalagmites and columns. The big room, where the elevators go, is a massive chamber decorated with undulations, spikes and spires of limestone. The sheet massiveness of the room boggles the mind.

I haven't been here since I was a kid, but the one thing I remember is that the caverns are so huge that there is actually a restaurant in the largest cave. Where else can you eat overpriced greasy food hundreds of feet below the surface of the planet???

Carlsbad Caverns are a must see in New Mexico. If you happen to be on a road-trip in the hot summer months... soak up the cool, where avg. temperatures are in the low 60's (or lower). The caves are broken down into different rooms. Each is unique and beautiful. If only they had a bar... I would have never come out!

What an amazing cavern! This is one excellent cave tour if ever there was one. The caverns are overwhelmingly enormous and filled with all kinds of interesting geological and biological wonders. Love this place.

These stalactites looked like clone troopers from Star Wars to me.
