Spectacular Geology, Forests, and Meadows at 10,000 Feet.

Discover one of America's most special parks: look down into a half-mile deep geologic amphitheater; wander among timeless bristlecone pines; stand in lush meadows of wildflowers; ponder crystal-clear night skies; and experience the richness of the subalpine forest.

Interest areas on the mountain are many. Cedar Mountain is (Hwy 14 to Hwy 89) and the northern spoke in the location to where we are between the parks. Cedar Breaks overlooks the valley and I-15 going to Las Vegas or Salt Lake City. Duck Creek Village is between us and Cedar Breaks. There are many things to visit; Cascade Fall at Navajo Lake, Mirror Lakes near Duck Creek Pond, Mammouth Caves where you can explore hallowed out underground tubes and play on lava rock climbs and Brianhead Ski Resort has summer activities and is a great "lookout" area to climb for a panoramic view of the entire mountain (almost 11,000 ft).

This is a beautiful place to visit close to Cedar City, UT. Call park services to verify the road is open because they usually close it for the winter. The map placement is incorrect, it is about 20 minutes from my vacation rental. Take UT-14 to UT-148. Just follow the signs.

Very different than most of Utah, up at elevation in a pine forest, it is beautiful in Aug/Sept when it is in bloom. Rains a lot. The canyon just does not compare to Bryce though.

An astounding and lesser known National Monument but - just take a break, take a deep breath and see this remarkable place. The S'ern Utah area is full of astounding geologic rock formations and this is one of the slightly lesser known but remarkable sites. Amazing, beautiful. As an artist my paintbrush was at warp speed trying to record.
