Great place for staying, fundraisers, events, weddings, etc. I was here for a CATO event and the venue is absolutely amazing.

Very famous and old historic hotels. Rooms above the 5th floor have updated bathrooms. Below the 5th floor it can be a hit or miss. However, the staff is impeccable. Some of my favorite people I know. Ask them anything and they'll try their best to accommodate you. Be sure to stop by the concierge desk and see what they have to offer you to do in Chicago.

I stayed just down the street at the Waldoff Astoria. The Drake is about two city blocks closer to the action of Michigan Ave. It is also surrounded by shopping and elegance. Whereas the entrance to the Waldoff Astoria is across from a Walgreens. Nothing glamorous there..., but its location is better. From what I could tell they both cater to money and every guest is treated like a rock star. The Drake is American luxury at its finest.

I have never stayed at the Drake, however I have ate New Year's Day brunch there. It was fantastic and the ambiance at the hotel only added to the experience.

The Drake is fancy living in a way that I thought only existed in movies until I went to the Drake. They got high ceilings, chandeliers, ornate carpeting. Soft inoffensive piano music, played live, follows you as you make your way around the lobby. It’s easy to get lost in this place. It’s hard to believe that they’re as pet friendly as they are, but they love dogs here. They looooove them. The staff is incredibly friendly, surprisingly, even to people not wearing suit jackets. It’s easy to feel like the President when you are here, sort of because the rooms have an Oval Office-y feel to them. The Drake, in addition to being a Chicago landmark, sits at the start of the magnificent mile. If you haven’t gotten enough shopping done on the first floor of the hotel, you can rest easy knowing that anything you’re looking for is a mile or less away.

Coming south along Lakeshore or the bike path takes you directly toward their brilliant red sign spelling out "Drake" in their distinctive script. At Ohio Street Beach, the Drive and the path veers to the east to go around this historical hotel. Ask for a room facing north.

Since the hotel is at the top of Michigan Avenue, you're close to the Magnificent Mile and much of Chicago's nightlife and high end shopping.

If you want to stay somewhere famous, The Drake is the place for you! Not only has this extravagant hotel starred in movies like What Women Want, Mission: Impossible, and Risky Business, it has also hosted Princess Diana. Even my grandmother tells me stories of when she and my grandpa stayed here decades ago.

the Drake is a classic and more traditional hotel conveniently located near the Michigan ave shopping area. The ambiance of the hotel is old school but the rooms are kept fresh and clean and do not feel "old", just classic. Many of the higher floor rooms will offer a wonderful view of the lake.

When we walked into the Drake Hotel, I was overwhelmed with emotion. When you walk in your surrounded by history. While the hotel has been renovated and somewhat modernized, it has maintained its 1920s elegant feel. I felt like our hotel was one of the Sights on our trip. Imagining Princess Diana walking in the lobby years ago was a treat.

PROS: Hotel staff are friendly and professional. We got a great deal on our room rate through Expedia, so we were really happy about that. The Drake is located in a fantastic area along Michigan Ave. We could walk almost anywhere we needed to go. It was a fantastic location to be in.

CONS:The hotel puts a $300 charge on your account upon checking and only returns it after you leave and don't use any of the goods or services you can purchase in the hotel. We didn't know that before checked in and both had a daily limit on our cards. We had planned to do quite a bit of shopping after we checked in and didn't appreciate having to forfeit some of our daily limit that day for charges we weren't going to need. We didn't use the mini bar or any of the other services because we were only at the hotel for sleeping.

My ADVICE: Use the Concierge. They are friendly and helpful, especially if you're not a regular Chicago visitor. He directed us to the best pizza in town and the easiest way to get around town.

Drake is such an institution! I had been wanting to stay there ever since I find out about it. I finally got a deal and stayed there. I was a bit disappointing I have to say. The lobbies are gorgeous and the shops are glamorous. However, the myth buster moment came when I opened the door to my room. It was tiny and old and not in a charming way. I am glad I stayed there, but I am not dying to go back.

A beautiful old hotel with a lot of flair. If you prefer the 'W' style, you might not like this, but it is nice to stay at places with some history. This is by no means run down, it's still quite luxurious, but has patina at the same time, in a good way.

The Drake is an icon, a Lake Shore Drive landmark, and as such, people tend to give the place the benefit of the doubt. Depending on your perspective and attitude, this hotel is a timeless romantic classic or a bit dated and worn at the heels. I’m of the former persuasion, and I marvel at the mirrored elevators with leather benches – just in case you need to go into a swoon. The elegant ballroom and the beautiful bar and the lake and city views from this hotel are all certainly swoon-worthy. I love the giant vases of fireworks shaped flowers and that there are three restaurants and a high tea on offer. I can certainly see the perspective of those who aren’t thrilled with paying $13 for internet service that is not wireless, the scuffs on some of the aging dark wood furnishings and the occasional unsightly stain on aging wall treatments. The walls and doors are also of the less soundproofed thickness, so be prepared to hope your neighbors are getting along well – but not too well! All in all, it’s a special occasion hotel and if you view it with the appropriate rose-colored perspective, it’s a dreamy time.

The Drake is impressive, all lit up at night while you are driving to it on Lakeshore Drive, with its red neon sign glowing at you. It almost feels Medieval when you first approach it with a dragon perched outside the doorway. The first thing I was drawn to was curio case with a whole miniature mechanical lit-up circus with a carousel in a case on the wall. They also had the biggest flower arrangement I have ever seen in the dining room. It was really unique. Everything felt antique-y and 20th century. There was a little couch in one of the elevators, and we guessed that it there was in case you drank too much you could then just rest there awhile. The suite was huge and rustic. It would be a great place to have a party or a meeting because there is so much open space. The room also had the best view of the beach you could ever want.
