Ok, this is a landmark from TV not film, but it's still a Chicago icon and absolutely worth a visit. The name is indeed a reference to the legend of the Billy Goat curse on the Chicago Cubs (which prevents them from winning the World Series), and it was Billy Goat Tavern founder Billy Sianis who supposedly cursed the Cubs. This gave the restaurant local notoriety, which then spread nationwide after John Belushi quoted the tavern's "Cheezborger, Cheezborger, Cheezborger. No Pepsi. Coke." sign on Saturday Night Live's "Olympia Cafe" sketch. The sign is still up, and the tavern is still in the same location. Famous more for its pop culture legacy than its food (which is standard greasy pub fare), the tavern serves several beers and has a working jukebox in the corner. You can visit anytime and order a cheeseburger with a Coke and watch the Cubs game on the TVs.

The Billy Goat Tavern is a Chicago institution. Best known for Cheezeborger! Cheezeborger! Cheezeborger! They also have sandwiches. Worth a stop for the atmosphere and history but the food won't leave much of a lasting impression.

This is the original Billy Goat Tavern and was founded in 1937 by Billy Sianis, a Greek immigrant. It achieved fame primarily through newspaper columns by Mike Royko, a supposed curse on the Chicago Cubs and the Olympia Cafe sketch on Saturday Night Live (Cheezborger, Cheezborger, Cheezborger. No Pepsi. Coke).

Meh. I don't like the atmosphere, I didn't like the service, and the food was just passable. My Uncle likes this place because of its newspaper hangout roots, but even by my love of atmospheric bar standards, I'd rather be out in the one of the neighbourhoods. What seems to be left here is tourist trap of which I don't wish to be a member.

Great Cheezborgor place to go to before the BIG game at the United Center. Value burger + fries plus excellent coca-cola! Super fun atmosphere and the double cheezeburger is fabulous.

The burger was very greasy, but passable. More of a stop just to say I've been there! Hard to find, unless you are looking for it, since it is under the Magnificent Mile. Small, crowded and loud....I don't need to go back. If you were a fan of Saturday Night Live, and liked the skit, then go....if not, there are so many other, more worthwhile places to visit.

Found this place by accident wandering the streets of Chicago. Hubbie and I were hungry and it was the closest thing around. We had no idea about its history or its popularity on SNL until we were inside. The place is an absolute dive, and I don't mean that in a good way. The burgers were obviously frozen patties that were placed on a stale, oversized bun. On the way out I saw a sign that said "voted best burger in Chicago" by so and so. I laughed and told my Hubbie, "if this is the best burger in Chicago, people here have never had a good burger". Seriously, don't waste your time unless you are really hung up on the SNL connection.

A classic, grubby American diner that everyone needs to experience in Chicago. Their homemade ale tastes great and is well-priced.

Under The Mag Mile and full of Chicago history, it's all about the ambiance and the story of the Curse of the Billy Goat. Don't ask for lettuce, Pepsi or fries.

First of all I went because of the SNL skit. But the burgers were great. Nice and greasy just like your arteries want.

Classic dive bar and grille. Open late serving food. Cash only. Go there to get Old Style and shots. Had a blast kicking back in this dive.

Billy Goat was made famous outside of Chicago by the original cast of Saturday Night Live sketch featuring the Olympia Cafe—"Cheeborger, Cheeborger, Cheeborger, no fries, chip, no coke, pepsi". It's almost exactly what you'd expect from that sketch, too. They are good cheeseburgers suitable for a late night knosh.

This isn't the original location, which was over by what is now the United Center, and it might take a little bit to find it since the street is at two levels there. You want to be on the lower level, so look for the stairs down from Michigan. There are some other, easier to find locations but they don't have the same atmosphere.

So it's not the best burger in the world but certainly one of the best experiences. It's been parodied on SNL and lives up to expectations. Cheeseburger Cheeseburger. No Coke, Pepsi.

Remember the John Belushi 'Cheeseburger, cheeseburger,cheeseburger-no coke, pepsi' shit? This is the place-killer food, a bit pricey compared to my small town diner, but worth it

great for history, right downtown, a good fast cheap lunch option that isn't a chain. But they only have hamburgers, which is of course why they're famous.
