trusted news sources in America. The Tribune is the largest paper in the Great Lakes region and eighth largest in the country. Today the Chicago Tribune is owned by the Tribune Company, a newspaper holding company, and in recent years has scaled away its non-essential holdings such as Wrigley Field and the Chicago Cubs as it struggles to cope with the pressures on the wider industry.

The exterior of the Chicago Tribune Tower has pieces of other buildings adorning its outside walls. It's pretty cool to see pieces of one of the Giza pyramids, Edinburgh Castle and other historically significant pieces of architecture on this building in downtown Chicago. Helpful Tip: Rumor has it that a piece of moon rock until NASA repossessed it.

The Tribune building is right up my alley, a Franken-style structure featuring Art Deco and gothic influences. The top of the building was inspired by the French Rouen cathedral (no wonder why I love it!). I was particularly taken with the bizarre homage to famous structures around the world at the ground level, which you can see stones from numerous worldwide attractions.

This neo-gothic tower is another Chicago icon. Just don't visit here during Open House Chicago without a CAF membership. In the lobby, look for the quotation that has a spelling error.

Gothic architecture at it's pentacle is what this building represents. They offer tours of the Chicago Tribune building. Definitely worth looking into if you're studying CAD or Architecture of any kind.

An architectural highlight of Chicago. Easily combined with the Wrigley Building, the Chicago River, and the Michigan Avenue Bridge. Incredibly windy here.

One of the most iconic buildings in town and a great part of the river cruise for the architecture. The river is the best view of the building.

One of my favorite buildings in Chicago. This gothic wonder was the winner in an architecture design contest and was built in the early 1900s. i was lucky enough to work in the building in 2011. Walk all around the base to see the special 'stones' from around the world. If you're lucky...get in and up to see the amazing view from the 22nd floor patio.

This is a pretty cool building to check out in Chicago. You will find incorporated into the lower levels of the tower many relics from the world's most famous buildings: rocks and bricks from the Taj Mahal, the Parthenon, the Great Wall of China, Angkor Wat, Hagia Sofia, the Grand Pyramid... just to name a few. Those souvenirs where brought back by the Tribune's correspondents prior to it's construction in 1925.

I went to say hi to my editor in the Travel section and was inspired by quotes on the walls from Jefferson, Madison, Euripedes and others about the importance of the press. When I first saw the building from Chicago River Walk, I thought the neo-gothic skyscraper must be a church. It's a beautiful building designed by Raymond Hood and John Howell in a 1922 competition for the "most beautiful and eye catching design in the world." Now Marilyn is outside in Pioneer Plaza to also catch eyes. The Tribune Tower is located on North Michigan Avenue in the area nicknamed the Magnificent Mile along the Chicago River.
