Collioure is not unfortunately what it once was, an artists' colony set around a romantic bay, as it has been expanded in the last half-century to become a tourist hotspot especially in July and August. But it is well worth a visit as the bay and old parts of town are still there and there are plaenty of decent lunching opportunities. The artists are there still but very few appeal to us. If you are a collector though you might be lucky though.

Walk along the coastal path and capture the magnificent views of the castle and famous clock tower. Sit outside the Blue Marine Bar and Restaurant and watch the world go by.

Famous for the many artists who have worked here due to the clarity of the light. Many lovely boutiques and restaurants and a fantastic market along the quayside every morning in summer. the château is also well Worth a visit. One time home to the Master and Commander author Patrick O'Brian

Dont just stay in the house and shop in the supermarkets,go into town and see why its been the destination of choice of many families for decades, the cobbled streets are alive with nostalgia, the beaches (pebbles) are safe and so clean, generations of children have played with each stone, wearing them smooth and round!
the locals are friendly and warm,be prepared to be treated even better if you try a few words of French, many do speak English, but the effort to at least be prepared to make mistakes with words and grammar will bring out smiles and a true wish to help.

My favourite place in the Aude, but has recently become quite commercial, which I love, but my husband does not. Lots restaurants, beach, church, loads art studios and shops. Allow at least a day to relax here
