finally completed in 1880, it was one of the world's tallest building. The Dom stands an imposing 157m high and you will need to be in good shape if you want to climb one of the towers, although the view from the top is definitely worth the effort. Perhaps the most famous Gothic building in the world, and a protected UNESCO world heritage site, the Kölner Dom is a beautiful cathedral 632 years in the making. At 157 meters tall, climbing the towers is no small feat, but the view at the top is ultimately breathtaking.

Definitely a ‘must see’ when visiting Cologne. Make your way up the 533 steps for a beautiful panoramic view from the top of the cathedral. Unfortunately, the worker we met at the ‘bell’ level of the tower was extremely rude. I tried to ask him a question about the bell and instead of answering he yelled at me that they were closing in 10 minutes.

Visited the outside, the architecture is no doubt very impressive. Unfortunately, there is a lot of construction going on the outside and theres a fee to enter the Dom. Definitely worth a walk around the cathedral though.

This is hands-down my favorite building anywhere in the world! Kölner Dom is Germany's most visited landmark, and for good reason. It's got everything: Stunning gothic architecture, incredible history, and a fine workout if you climb the spire. Just looking up at the facade is a dizzying spectacle. It's free to walk around the impressive interior and check out the lovely murals and stained glass, but I recommend climbing the tower if you've got the time and stamina. It's 4 Euros at full price (reduced for students and families) and yields some truly breathtaking views. Just go around the outside of the cathedral to the right from the front entrance and you'll find a place to head inside and start your ascent.

This is a must go if you are in Köln. Go during the day to see the inside, and come back at night to see it lit up. (No filter on my photo)

The city’s top attraction and for good reason. A visit to Cologne’s gothic Cathedral should be one of the first things you do. First simply walk around and marvel at its imposing structure. Once inside, the atmospheric beauty will overwhelm you, there are so many interesting art and design pieces especially the beautiful stained glass windows. The remains of the Three Wise Men are housed here, which made this an important pilgrimage destination for centuries. It’s also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and can hold 20,000 people. Get fit and climb the 500 steps in the clock tower for fabulous city views.

Beautiful cathedral. If you can register 3+ months out for your trip, definitely spring for a private rooftop tour, it was breathtaking.

200 and something (probably more) step up (and down) a spiral staircase gave me spiritual views of the city. It's beautiful and the task of climbing up the stairs is definitely worth it. Must see! I mean must climb!

This UNESCO World Heritage site dwarfs all the other buildings in town. If you are adventurous, climb the over 500 steps to the top of the dom to see some stunning views of the city.

I highly recommend for anyone interested in architecture or design to take a rooftop tour of the Köln Dom. The tour takes about 45 minutes and you see the most breathtaking views of the city. If your scared of heights I wouldn't recommend but if your feeling ballsy I would try this out. Not only do they take you to the top but they also allow you to parts of the bell tower and inside the second story to view the inside of the cathedral.

A striking late-gothic monster, and an architectural masterpiece, the Kolner Dom (Cologne Cathedral) simply cannot be missed. The imposing black-stone edifice is incredible, the cavernous interior atmospheric, and the climb up the tower for excellent views should not be missed.

Breathtakingly gorgeous!
After tramping around in the cold rain for about an hour we stepped into the Dome exhausted. We looked up at the ceiling and at the windows, and it was like receiving a second wind. All of the stress and tiredness just seemed to float off and away from us. The sheer beauty of this magical place truly brightened our entire stay in Cologne.

I didn't get a chance to go in, but there's a reason why this is the symbol of Cologne. It the most imposing Gothic Cathedral that I've ever seen. Would've loved to have been able to go inside & climb its clock tower.

I just love this Cathedral!
It's just so HUGE and it's hard to believe that construction began around 1200 AD!
The cathedral's also a great starting point for the rest of Cologne because the city's litterally built around it.
