State capital of South Carolina and known as “The Capital of Southern Hospitality,” Columbia has a lot to offer, but at a laid back pace. You can explore the history of European settlers in South Carolina at the Cayce Historical Museum, or catch a play at the Town Theatre — the oldest community theatre in continuous use in the United States. ... Riverbanks Zoo, home to more than 2,000 animals housed along the Saluda River, has been named one of America’s best zoos, and number one travel attraction in the Southeast. There are plenty of boutiques and galleries downtown to leisurely browse around and the city is home to over 450 restaurants — from Southern comfort food to trendy food trucks. The 18-acre Finlay Park hosts music concerts during the summer, and for real outdoors-lovers, Congaree National Park has some of the tallest trees in eastern North America, and is a great spot for hiking, camping, bird watching and kayaking, to name but a few activities. And since Columbia is pretty much in the center of the state, it’s easy to take day trips to other cities such as Aiken and Camden.

As the capital of South Carolina, the city does not disappoint. Visit the downtown area and try southern restaurants and neat bars. The more busier areas are near the mall too. They have certain college areas that have neat shops too. You must check out the Riverbanks Zoo and Garden! It is very well maintained! Remember to not skip the Garden part! They have a splash pad and acres of kids play areas and it is all part of your Zoo admission!

The very first state capital in the country. Tons of history here. Foodies will find plenty. "Famously Hot" is a true statement but you're only an hour & a half from the beach or mountains if you need to cool off. Or you can take a dip in the nearby lake or tube/kayak the 3 rivers downtown! Main St has enjoyed a Renaissance with many shops and events.

The worlds tallest fire extinguisher! I wouldn't go out of your way to see this but if you are in Columbia, SC, might as well stop by.

I am a proud Gamecock and will always hold Columbia in a special place in my heart. This charming city is the home to University of South Carolina, and if you are in the area you must check out the gorgeous campus. Divine and Gervais Sts are also a must, as is a picnic lunch on the river.

Columbia is the capital of South Carolina and although it's a big city, there are not many sky scrapers or new businesses popping up. There is a lot of history to be found in Columbia if you know where to look. There are quiet a few areas downtown for the locals to get a drink after work and a big park in the middle of town.
