A triathletes haven on Saturday mornings when tons of athletes come to practice open water swimming, Walden Pond is also a popular spot for family beach days, so if you’re heading there on a summer weekend, be sure to get up early to ensure a parking spot.

A 35 minute drive to Concord MA! Henry David Thoreau!....and, speaking of Concord...you should visit the Old North Bridge, Battle Road Trail, other museums including Orchard House...think "Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott.

Tends to be busy on hot summer days but a beautiful place nonetheless! There is a limit on the number of people allowed in so come early!

Just made my first pilgrimage to Walden Pond. It was beautiful! They are building a new visitors' center, so it will be exciting to see that develop. Not sure what Thoreau would think?

Walden Pond is a beautiful spot to walk, swim, and potentially contemplate the life of simplicity that Thoreau led there in a 2 year experiment in the 19th century.

Great lake, but definitely not for the casual traveller. Have to plan in advance-- it fills up quickly.

Didn't have very high expectations, but they were more than met. Spent a wonderful afternoon here with a friend in Boston. I can see why Thoreau loved it.

It's a very serene park and, of course, the namesake of Thoreau's famous novel. Walk the trail around the park, and you can't avoid the feelings Thoreau must have had with regards to nature. One can see the foundation of his humble cabin, but it isn't there anymore - a replica is displayed, though.

Walden Pond (yes, of Henry David Thoreau fame) is a great place to hang out on a nice afternoon and have a picnic. I first came here when I was living in Boston. A group of friends decided to bike there in the morning via the Minuteman Bikeway. It is a good 18-20 miles away from Boston, but once you're there you will see people enjoying a picnic, swim or buying some drinks from the vendor that has set up shop there. I went in spring, I bet it's even more packed in summer!

I've been to Walden several times, and it is a lovely spot, but unless you go on a quiet weekday when the weather is on the cooler side, you're not likely to feel very Thoreau-vian wandering around in the woods. The beach around the lake can be really busy in the summer, so be warned. Goose Lake is adjacent to Walden and is a teeny bit quieter.
