Corpus Christi, Texas was founded as a trading post in 1839, and it has a population now of just under a half million people. I loved the city, especially it's quaint Irishtown, where they have moved many of the old majestic houses built in the 19th or early 20th century. I have been to Corpus on three occasions, and I look forward to going back at the earliest opportunity.

The sparkling little city by the bay will always hold a special place in my heart but then again, being a native son, I could be prejudiced. All prejudice and humidity aside, Corpus Christi's Padre Island is one of the only places in the United States where you can drive for miles and miles on undeveloped, windswept beaches. Surfing Bob Hall Pier and the Jetty break in nearby Port Aransas are as popular with the locals as they are with the Spring Breakers who descend upon Corpus every year in their annual rite of passage.

We were there (with husband, naval station) in 1971 when we were caught in an hurricane. Had to immediately evacuate and return to Louisiana. We were then stationed in Kingsville, Texas (Kingsville Ranch is where we lived) where our first child was born - a son. I loved the area then and would dearly love to see it, today. It holds one of the great experiences of my life, the birth of a mother's first child. What a trip! My son is 41 years of age, today.
