It is also called the Pumapungo Museum and is right next to the Pumapungo Ruins. Nice place to spend a few hours.

The Inca ruins were okay, but the variety of Macaws and other exotic amazon birds is pretty cool for this mini zoo. Yes it's sad to see these birds in small cages, but we quickly forgot that when a toucan approached us so close that I could touch its beak, which I did and it didn't seem to mind!

Dioramas and (infamously) a couple shrunken heads. Well worth the walk and across the street, the even more interesting Aboriginal Museum and gift shop.

A great place to start if you want to learn more about the history and culture of Ecuador and Cuenca. Includes the Pumapungo ruins, native crops and medicinal plants, llamas, and an aviary. Usually Jean, from Belgium, is cooking waffles near the aviary. Free or small fee.

Museo del Banco Central is a great way to spend an afternoon. This huge property offers something for everyone. Check out the huge museum and then wander through the beautiful botanical gardens, and archeological ruins. Don't miss the exotic birds in the aviary located on the lower, backside of the property. Museum hours are Mon-Fri 9am-6pm; Sat 9am-1pm Located at Calle Larga and Av. Huayna Capac...a nice walk from the apartment. They advertise a small entrance fee but every time I've gone it was free. There is also a beautiful auditorium on site where you can sometimes attend a symphony or ballet performance which is either free or few dollars.
