For a big chain hotel this particular Marriott has a lot of character. It feels really modern and sleek and the lobby is really inviting. It's close to the Fox Hills mall and the airport and Santa Monica are only about a 15 minute drive away. The rooms are really clean and the staff is friendly, always greeting you with a smile. I love the tub in the bathroom and the heated pool and jacuzzi are a great touch. You'll definitely need a car to explore other parts of the city but the hotel is centrally located and really accessible to all major parts of the city. Great for business travelers who want to add a bit more pizzazz than the cookie cutter hotel chain to their stay.

The Marriott brand is the go-to hotel for business casuals racking up their Rewards cards on the company dime. Weary travelers want dependability, but being dependable can often mean you’re boring, which explains the much-needed renovation that ditched the gold brass and brought this hotel to the Millennial-age. There’s no DJ-spinning at the heated outdoor pool, but there’s a modern appeal from everything to the communal lobby and the updated rooms. Everything feels inviting and less-button up. There’s an in-house bistro that serves late, but for a real dinner try local institution, C&O Trattoria, you won't be able to refuse the meatballs and garlic bread.

I come here every Fall and Spring quarter for a banquet dinner and I must say that I have always had a blast here. The banquet rooms are very large and spacious. The decoration is pleasing to the eye and the staff doesn't give you a hard time. I love their three course entry of salad, chicken marsala/1/2 chicken, and the chocolate dessert heaven on a plate that they serve. I also always enjoyed the dinner bread rolls they provide with balls of butter. I do recommend this place and it is located in a nice part of town.

Extra: I love the second floor banquet hall because the classic black piano is staged right outside of its entrance. I think it's a nice touch and they even had let us play it as much as we wanted to late at night around 11PM. Lastly, there's also a convenient small causal lounging area not too far from the piano and the bathrooms are located right on the side.

This Courtyard by Marriott is in Culver City, but is called the Courtyard by Marriott Los Angeles Westside. That is a mouthful!

The building is probably 20 years old, but within the last year it has been totalled remodelled. It now has a more updated lobby, with a festive confetti-like decor of colors and patterns, and swirling marble walkpaths leadin to the check-in desk.

It has about 12 stories. The rooms are typcial Courtyard in design and style. The beds are more of the Temprupedic foam type, whereas Hilton, Starwood, and Hyatt brands are usually soft quilt-top mattress over a firm mattress. They both offer a decent night;s sleep, but I prefer Starwoods (Sheraton, Westin) and my next favorite are Hiltons.

The location is convenient, just 2 or 3 miles from LAX, but far enough away to not have the jets landing on top of you. So you don't have jet noise, but they are remodeling the currently closed Fox Hills Mall next door. There is a small shopping stip mall nearby, and you are close to Culver City's downtown for more good dining choices. Courtyard's usually have a restaurant and room service, but I didn't use either on this trip.

I got a rate of $139 in early February, typically a slow season.

The Howard Hughes Center is across the 405 freeway, where there is the Premenade mall and movie theaters.

If the 405 is jammed, you can try Sepulveda to get here, or from downtown LA, take La Cienaga over Ladera Heights.
