This 1924 hotel is on the National Register of Historic Places, and was once owned by John Wayne. The Duke may or may not have won it from Charlie Chaplin in a poker game. During the filming of the Wizard of Oz all 124 Munchkins stayed here. They serve a famous brunch and have live jazz in the evenings. Rooms feature antique furniture. If you have the dough, go for the John Wayne Suite!

Love the live music, upstairs bar and great price point. Its in the heart of downtown culver city and the service was excellent. One of the best spots in town.

This hotel is beautiful inside! I love the old vintage decor. Every night they have live jazz in the lobby. Drinks are always on point too!

Honestly one of my favorite spots! It's historical, there's live music in a swanky hotel lobby set up as a restaurant where you can sip a glass of wine or a famous Moscow mule while listening to the cellist play. An outdoor terrace perfect for a summer night, a speakeasy upstairs for a couple of discrete drinks, and actual hotel rooms you can book for the night. The food is amazing!

The location of this historic hotel is absolutely perfect as it sits in the middle of downtown Culver city. It is steps away from a tons of restaurants, shops, bars, and lounges.

The lobby bar makes good strong cocktails and the upstairs lounge is a particular favorite of mine when open. The old Hollywood decor creates a true LA atmosphere.

They also host several jazz nights throughout the week.

We love the historic hip vibe of the Culver hotel. Great lounge for breakfast, lunch, wonderful happy hour ($5 glasses of wine and excellent fish tacos.)
Downtown Culver CIty is wonderful to walk around. Farmer's market across the hotel every Tuesday from 3 to 6 pm. This is 5 minutes from our rental!

I took my sister here today for brunch to celebrate her belated bday. We found parking on this tricky little curb with no signs but could of potentially been for the valet- so park with your own discretion.

with the sun shiny bright and the birds chirping it was a no brainier to be seated outdoors.

initially when we asked to be seated at a certain area, our server rudely responded with "its gonna be a 15 to 20 minute wait to clean up, so .." so politely we walked to a little corner in the back and hoped that she wouldnt forget us... A little upset about her behavior but, it was a nice day and we just got we brushed it off.

we had the living social deal for $25 free mimosa and bloody marys and 2 brunch specials.
...we got the spinach eggs Benedict and the Belgian strawberry waffles.
both were delicious - even though it took 3 hrs before they finally arrived, they were short staff so we forgave that as well..brushed that off as well..

I walked up to use the restroom (cute restroom btw) and came back and notice the seats were clean so we moved everything over by ourselves as well as the big umbrella to cover the other side of the seating (a 2 person job , my sister and i looked super silly in our dresses and heels moving this big chunk of steel)
again we were super polite and went on with our mary ways chugging our mimosa and our marys..
in the mist of happiness..the bill came out and we were shocked on how much it was - apparently the bottomless mimosa and marys were not bottomless..*what?* but thats what the paper said?!?!? Our server said - i even took off your coffees (she lied of course cause it was on there...) management came out and she was kind enough to cut it in half ,after telling her about the situation ...still if you say something you should honor it..and don't be rude about it !

A historical building in the heart of Culver City with ties to The Wizard of Oz. Their restaurant/bar on the first floor is a must-visit if you're in the area. They have live jazz that would interest all ages (Tuesday evenings the band does jazz renditions of popular songs). Wonderful atmosphere with a solid food/drink menu. And fun fact: the Munchkins stayed at this hotel while filming The Wizard of Oz at the nearby Culver Studios.

Amazing Location, parking, bar, funky old-school the history. A great place to stay in LA that's close to all the good stuff.

I love Culver City and it's so convenient for me to get here with minimal traffic compare to further along West LA.
I had such a wonderful jazzy time here for their happy hour!
The finger foods was amazing!! Sliders, mac and cheese was so good, pastries and tuna kabob on a stick with watermelon and tomato. I had virgin cocktail drinks, Mediterranean mojito and an regular mojito. But from my friend's, she said they were not stingy about the alcohol. :-)

What more can a gal ask for on a Monday night? Great food, great drinks, great delicious, great live Jazz music, and last but definitely not least, great company!!!

Really nice boutique hotel, within walking distance of cool bars & restaurants. Live Jazz on Thursday nights. Free Wi-Fi in the lobby and in the rooms.

San Francisco

When I stepped into the lobby of The Culver Hotel it was as if I'd stepped back in time. Live jazz filled the air wafting up to the lofty ceilings. Guests lounged on antique chairs and couches sipping cocktails. The low-lit loung atmosphere inspired me to order a Manhattan.

Lived 1 mile from this hotel my whole life and never realized it was a "landmark", it was just a very cool looking hotel. This hotel has been in Culver City seems forever and is best known as the hotel where the actors playing The Munchkins stayed when they were filming The Wizard of Oz.

Local from Los Angeles, California, USA

A wedge shaped hotel on a wedge shaped lot, the Culver Hotel opened in 1924 serving as a part-time residence for many MGM stars. While the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz was being filmed, 124 little people (who played the Munchkins in the film) stayed here, three people to a room, all using the same bed. Unverified legends abound concerning the Culver. One of them is that Charlie Chaplin sold the hotel to John Wayne for $1.00 during one of their poker games.

Do you miss the 'golden' Hollywood era? This is the hotel for you.
This is a nice hotel but pricey.

If your really interested in Sony Studios and Culver Studios you can just walk there in less than 5 minutes.

When I have family or friends in town I put them up here if my guesthouse is full. This place is steeped in Hollywood history & the rooms are named after famous stars of Hollywoods hay-day who actually did stay at the hotel. Rooms are filled with antiques and while small they make up for it in mood. I also love the location because it is close to LAX, the beach, Hollywood.... it's a perfect spot for enjoying Los Angeles. Culver City is safe & filled with so many good places to eat within walking distance of the hotel. the staff here is also very friendly.
