Cyprus Vacations

Cyprus is an enigma. Claimed by a majority Greek Cypriot population with a vocal Turkish Cypriot minority (Turkey lays claim to half of Cyprus, a political stance accepted by only Turkey's government), Cyprus is also a holiday-maker's haven. While tensions have run high between the northern Turkish half and the southern Greek half, Cyprus aligns ... Read more
itself with Europe but is geographically much closer to Turkey and the Middle East. The location of the island means its tourism industry has flourished despite the tensions. With its pristine beaches and abundance of ancient ruins, Cyprus attracts a diverse set of visitors. Tourist towns such as Agia Napa are renowned for catering to British hipsters looking for all-night clubbing and DJs spinning house music. However, Cyprus is also home to a wealth of archaeological sites well worth visiting. Ruins dating to ancient Greece and Rome dot the countryside, and the Cyprus Museum in Nicosia is filled with fascinating historical treasures. While on Cyprus, consider renting a villa with a group of friends or family, as they aren’t exorbitantly expensive and often include pools and other amenities.

Beautiful island. Nice beaches, super friendly people, and lots of history (ranging from the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Crusades, Ottomans, and then British).

This country has so much to offer! Because of its strategic location in the Mediterranean, it has an incredible -and very noticeable- historical background. It's all beautiful. Good weather all year round, some excellent, underestimated wines, delicious Cypriot-Greek specialties, friendly locals, and a good night-life.

My first dip into the world of family holidays

Feeling like total travel beginners

It was with trepidation that we set off on our recent, and first ever holiday with our baby son. Was our little lad going to inflict screaming hell on our fellow passengers? How would he cope with the heat? Would he take to the sea? Would the hire car have a baby seat as requested? Would the hotel be equipped for a baby? Would we enjoy a resort-style holiday more accustomed to adventure and boutique? Not a bit of it, like a native, absolutely, of course, more than enough and pleasantly surprised were the answers. In short, our family trip to Cyprus was fantastic and the Anassa hotel couldn’t have been better.

Perfect after all

The Anassa sits on the stunning and totally un-spoilt Akamas Peninsula, has its own private beach and every imaginable bell and whistle, while at the same time maintaining a very discrete feel. There were activities aplenty. Diving the reefs and drop-offs from the hotel’s own PADI centre couldn’t

have been more convenient. Likewise water-skiing on the morning glass was just a stroll away. We hired a boat for the day and were amazed to be handed a speed-boat to explore the coves of the Akamas Peninsula and swim in its stunning Indian Oceanesque water.

Faultless service

But it was the hotel’s service which really set it apart. We couldn’t have felt more welcome. When we arrived in our room, cot, high-chair, changing table, bottle steriliser and all manner of baby toys were waiting for us. We used the hotel’s baby sitting service for a couple of evenings – again exceptional. The food (although expensive) was delicious and the award-winning spa superb. Anassa was a fantastic choice for a holiday with a baby but I also feel totally confident that couples of all ages and families with older children would love it. Best times to visit are between March and November (we went in June which was lovely) but definitely worth avoiding the heat and crowds of August.

Hazy summer days and long, relaxed evenings are always top of the bill in Cyprus.
With gorgeous stretches of beach, delicious eateries and luxury hotel resorts in abundance here, you will find that relaxing will be more fun than ever before. Cobbled streets, quaint houses and interesting markets are just waiting to be discovered at every turn, so what are you waiting for?
