Czech Republic Vacations

Bounding onto the traveler's radar in the 1990's after the fall of the Soviet Union, the Czech Republic -- Prague especially -- has become Central Europe's tourism darling. Students flock here for semesters abroad and summer vacations (perhaps this is because the famed Czech pilsner beer is literally cheaper than water, but we'd like to think the ... Read more
culture, art and architecture has something to do with it, as well). The magnificent cultural center of Prague along the Vltava River should be first on any traveler's to-do list. Spared from city-wide bombings of WWII, Prague now boasts one of the most impressive medieval historic district in Europe. Stroll along the city’s cobblestone streets and enjoy the sunset from the Charles Bridge and the panoramic city spread from the magnificent grounds of Prague Castle. Visit the countryside for hiking trails around the Karlštejn Castle (a magnificent destination in itself). Of course, a visit to the Czech Republic wouldn’t be the same without trying out some of their famous beer, so head to the town of Pilsner to see the origin of the famous Pilsner Urquell brand.

aplenty. To avoid crowds, visit in late spring, when the fruit trees lining Czech roads begin to blossom and temperatures stay in the 70s (20), or early autumn, when mild weather gives you room to enjoy the country’s colorful foliage. If you don’t mind the cold, head to Prague in the winter for fewer tourists; December is especially enchanting since the whole city is decorated with Christmas lights and Christmas markets open. Winter is also a good time to visit the Krkonoše and Šumava Mountains for skiing and other cold weather sports.

Submerge yourself in the rich culture found here! Everything is kept exactly how it was built. It is simply beautiful and there is a certain feeling you have while here, especially if you're of Czech heritage. Make sure to check out Charles Bridge, Old Town Square, Prague Castle, and to go to the observation deck by Charles Bridge to get an overview of the city. Try kolaches and trdlnik here as well, amazing desserts!

In the past couple decades, the Czech Republic has quickly become one of the favorite destinations for travelers in Europe. Historic cities with well-preserved architectures, grand castles, ornate cathedrals, good food and drink, and laid back mentality have placed the Czech Republic on most European itineraries. Bohemian, the western portion of the country is beer territory, and many come to drink Czech beer to the full. Pilsner was invented here and its the home of the original Budweiser.

The Czech Republic was the first place I ever traveled abroad so it holds a special place in my heart. I went there on a trip with classmates as a teenager and this country made such a great impression on me that it is still one of my favorite places in the world. It offers a beautiful blend of east and west European flavors. I intend to return there some day in the future.

They have beer. They have roasted meat on spits. They have an old town square with a festive clock. They have absinthe. They have a really tall club serving 7 kinds of musical genres. It's fun there and apparently easily reached by those in the Easter US. Go figure!
