Stunning museum with thousands of works in over 100 galleries, the collection spans the globe and covers ancient and contemporary works. It's a lot to take in a single day, so it makes sense to narrow down interests. Whatever you choose, don't miss the Deigo Rivera murals.

What a fantastic house of art & culture. This has to be one of the most unique and special museums in the USA. Locals get in for free & they host a variety of free concerts & shows. A must stop for all visiting or living in Detroit.

Great art museum in the heart of Detroit. Pro tip, there is another entrance on the other side of the building other then the Main Entrance. If the main entrance is packed, walk around the building to the other entrance and you'll be met with shorter lines and a huge paper sculpture hanging in the ceiling.

My favorite place in the entire world. Spend hours looking at pieces of art, getting a bite to eat or a cocktail in the Kresge Court, or take classes that allow you to just sit in the gallery with an easel, pencil and paper. If you're looking to be inspired, this is the haven for you.

This place is my favorite in Detroit. I go here at least once a month and there is always something going on. They have live music on fridays and they even have classes on the weekends for kids. There is a little bit of something for everyone.

I love this museum! Wonderful collections featured and the museum theater often brings in films to play that you can't see elsewhere. Free to locals, more people should take advantage of this great display of art!

With over 100 permanent galleries containing art spanning several time periods, the Detroit Institute of Arts is the place for the art lover visiting Detroit. One of the most stunning exhibits is Rivera Court, which features a mural by artist Diego Rivera depicting Detroit’s industrious history as the automotive capital of the United States. In addition to their permanent galleries, the DIA also frequently hosts many special exhibitions revolving around well-known artists from Picasso to Andy Warhol, and sometimes more unconventional things like the more recent puppetry exhibit. The DIA is also home to the Detroit Film Theater, which holds weekend screenings of a variety of different films from mainstream hits to independent productions.

My favorite thing in Detroit was the Diego Rivera mural! Seeing this monumental piece was so moving and special. People should come to Detroit just to see it; the whole museum is pretty impressive. And by the way, next year they're having a special exhibit about Frida Kahlo y Diego Rivera during their time in the Motor City. I'm definitely coming back!

This is one of the best art museums in the country, and a true jewel of Detroit. Absolutely a can't miss place if you're visiting Detroit, and certainly a place one can return again and again. Look for special events on the weekends, especially for kids. Only $5 for students and free for anyone in the tri-county area.

What a wonderful museum. I hope it makes it through the bankruptcy without loosing it's soul or pieces. The pride of the museum is Diego Rivera's mural. You cannot miss this on your visit to the Motor City.

Diego Rivera's mural "Detroit Industry" is the awesome centerpiece, filling an entire room with blue-tinged factory images. The rest of the collection spans eras and genres, but is particularly noteworthy for its American works.
