understatement or subtlety: Dubai. Scratching the sky at 2,717 feet -- that's half a mile -- getting into the observation deck 124 floors up is worth the price of admission. There's also a fine dining restaurant called Atmosphere on floor 122, and a 160-room hotel with astronaut-esque views. When you're ready to come back to earth, the park in front of the building has places to lounge and contemplate the tower's tip, if you have good eyesight.

When you look up and see the never ending built structure you know, you are but a spec of dust on this planet.

Book your tickets in advance! The best time to go is for sure around sunset and unless you're going during off-peak time, you'll want to book in advance. The upgraded experience on the higher floor is not worth it if you're looking to take photos; the best shots you take will be on the floors included in the standard experience (Note: the upgraded experience includes the standard experience). If you're not going during sunrise or sunset, try to go when the fountain show below is going on!

Lastly for photographers: The glass will provide a lot of glare to your photos, but there is a small slot on the outdoor terrace that your lens may fit out of, but if you have a DSLR (even ASP-C bodies), you'll struggle to get a downward angle. I recommend bringing the widest angle lens you have or can rent and doing a lot of post processing! Additionally, heat haze is for sure a thing, so go during the winter (simmilar to the US) and shoot between sunset and sunrise

Tallest building in the world (at least it will be until 2018...)
Great views of the Dubai Fountain and plenty of good restaurants nearby.

The world's tallest building! Although you can see the building from many locations, we loved the view from outside the Souk al Bahar (next to Dubai Mall). After attending the 6PM "dancing waters" show at Dubai Fountain, we were surprised to see a very impressive "light show" on the Burj Khalifa....twinkling, sparkling, every-changing colors and designs! An expected treat!

Impressive structure and one of the iconic buildings in Dubai. Marvel at it from the ground around Dubai Mall, the metro or the air. Go up to the 142nd floor if you have never been, but save your dirhams for other things if you have.

In Dubai, there is one dominant skyline feature that can literally be seen from anywhere in the city and surrounding areas, the towering Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. Taking an elevator up to one (or both) of the observation decks is an experience you shouldn't miss. To save some money on tickets though, book online in advance and select a ticket during non prime hours which will save you AED 75-150!

While in Dubai you must visit the worlds tallest building. It's huge! Just be aware it also comes with a huge price tag to go to the observation deck, which is why took a star off. We didn't go inside because of this but it was pretty neat to go here and watch the fountains below. At night they have a great light show to go along with it.

The view from the top of tallest building in the world didn't disappoint. We were lucky to have gone on a nice sunny day. Admission price is not cheap but after 7pm, prices drop almost half, I suggest to go in early or late afternoon for the best views.

Visiting the top of the Burj Khalifa is definitely a must-do if you're in Dubai. Make sure to book your tickets a few days ahead of time because the peak times can sell out quickly. The experience starts with a ride on the fastest elevator in the world to the top as they project the heights of other famous buildings (the pyramids, eiffel tower, sears tower, empire state building) as you pass their height on your way up.

The view at the top is spectacular with a lot of different views of the city. We went at night, after sunset, and I wished we would have gone during the day or at sunset to get a glimpse during the day. However, they have really cool digital telescopes that illustrate the live view, night view, day view and historical view.

What can I say about the tallest building in the world besides that it's a must visit if you're in UAE...well, it's unbelievably spectacular.

On a foggy day, you feel like you're in the sky. On a clear day, the architecture of Dubai is something deserving of 'awe.'
